We found that the independent Verizon reseller stores often didn't know about the no-contract options,
but the corporate stores did.
You can also buy a Verizon device on ebay for a lot less money, and it'll still work.
Doesn't have to be a USB760 -- there are many other models that work fine and they'll activate it.
We did this recently when comparing different services because our ATT service had gotten so bad.
If you have a sprint device, they may even swap it for an equivalent refurbished verizon device as
they did for us. We'd have loved to go with Verizon, but their signal at our house wasn't as
good as Sprint's. It's great for the passenger to be able to surf the internet while flying
down the freeway.
