Hi all.

I know that Walmart lets us stay overnight as a general rule, but not all of them do... Does anyone have any experience of the one in Montreal, Canada? I need to be handy for the city centre for an 8am appointment and there are no Campgrounds within about twenty miles of the city.

Cheers

Richard,

I just did a Google search for Wal-Mart Montreal and three of them popped up
on a Google Map. There were phone numbers for each of them. Give 'em a call.

According to this site you may be OK to park overnight at the Montreal Wal-Mart locations, but to be sure I would definately phone the store first.

1800 328 0402 seems to cover all the Montreal Wal-Mart locations

There are some errors on that chart. For example I checked the Santa Fe site and it says "no overnight parking" however the local Walmart does indeed allow overnight parking.

It is not so much each Walmart store. Walmart policy is to let you park. The differences are that some municipalities have ordinances against overnight parking. It is generally not the stores that prohibit overnight parking, it is the community.

I think it's really a matter of enforcement. We've parked many
times at WalMarts in WA, OR, CA, AZ, and NM with many signs indicating
no overnight RV or Truck parking. I still pull in, go in and buy junk
(it would actually be cheaper to stay at a KOA many times), then spend
the night. Only got kicked out of the WalMart in Fairfield, CA and I
was broke down at the time. Of all people, Security asked me to leave.
Has anyone been asked to leave by the local police??

Hi Richard
You can stay at the one that located in Vaudreuil-Dorion it is right next door to the FlyingJ and walking distance to the commuter train that will take you downtown in 20 minutes if you are coming here anytime but the last 3 weeks of June give me a shout I check the forum on a daily basis and may be able to point out some things to do still working so I am only available in the evening. I live about 5 miles from this WalMart located Highway 540 Exit 3

Hope this helps

I hear Florida is hard nosed on this rule. You can't hardly blame them though. I have seen people take advantage and turn the parking lots into a ghetto with noise and trash.

The one time I was told to leave, it was security but he said it was a local ordinance, not the store. In Prescott, AZ one of the stores makes you get an over night pass from the manager. The other one doesn't allow it at all because it is in city limits where an ordinance prevents it. The worst things I have observed is diesels running all night and even drag racing in the parking lot at 3:00 AM at Prescott.

Not in my part of Florida

Two of our favorite places to overnight were cemeteries -Very quiet! and
Church parking lots-but don't stay on Wednesday if a Baptist church. Of
course
Sundays are out.

Come on, Rusty! Everyone is dead...who's going to ask questions.

My wife visits graveyards all over the NE searching for ancestors. I
would raise the dish and kick back watching TV while Jan traipsed all
over the place.

We have often run into someone who also spends a day or 2 in the
cemetary.

Thanks for your posts on this - very useful info about the Vaudreuil-Dorion Walmart. I called a couple of others and discovered that
1. you can't necessarily rely on Google's phone numbers
2. the Jean Talon West Walmart clearly has no idea of what company policy is on this. I had to explain it several times, to several people, but all said "non" repeatedly.
3. the St Leonard Walmart has a very helpful lady who says "oui" but not in the main car park. She told me where to go and said no-one would bother us. So, should anyone be in the same position the answer is "oui" but, check 'em out first.

Hello Richard !

You can park in front of my house. I am near the subway station. That would be cool....2 GMC's in front!!! It is a quiet street.
I always park my GMC on the street. I could even drive you downtown if you let me know in advance when you will be coming !!!

Hi Richard

You say you have an appointment downtown at 8:00AM the best bet is probably going to be the commuter train, trying to drive downtown during our annual road construction festival is annoying for those of us that know the city well for an novice it is an exercise in frustration.
Any relation to Ronald Lister the locksmith?
