G’day,
I’d like to get a consensus on how long it would take to drop a transmission
with the final drive attached and re-install it.

March, 2009, Dothan AL, GMCMI Spring rally, from the time it was unbolted and dropped down, unbolted the FD and installed on the rebuilt tranny, lifted unit back up and bolted in place, 1 hour and 15 minutes. I had expert help for doing this, Bob Miller, Larry McLaughlin, Larry Weidner.

Depends on whether you have everything you need, and don't find any things needing attention after you drop the tranny, like oil pan gaskets, etc. It took me about 3-4 hrs to drop doing it myself. going back in took a few weeks to get around to it after all the other stuff. John and I had it back up and in in about 6 hrs. If I do it again. I'll remove the FD separately. The extra weight of that thing made it hard to balance and lift evenly. we ended up using cribbing and a floor jack, about a two by four at a time.

I have done it both ways. It took much longer and was a lot harder to do with the final drive attached.
I took two of us working on a concrete floor 1.5 hours to get it out and 2.5 hours to reinstall it.
If you are not replacing the final drive, leave it in the coach. Make sure you take the wheel liners out. It make getting at everything much easier.

Multiply the time it took to drop it by four and you"ll be pretty close on the reinstall time, (unless you are an expert like Manny.) Those top rear mount bolts are hard to start if you are ham fisted like me.

i've pulled one tranny and we left the FD in place. the FD is so easy to drop i think i would get it out of the way next time and just drop the tranny by itself. it took us 2 days to get it out and back in.

The maintenance manual may be your best guide for the tranny removal -- I do not recall a write-up on any of the sites. Cannot remember if you were on the net when Tom Lins was completing his GMC literature videos but he now has a DVD with the maintenance manual and many other GMC items,,,so if you do not have access to a manual here is his info.

Well, here I am back on line and I need to find out how to do this. Mine
lightly backs up and hardly moves forward. JimB says it needs to come out and
e replaced by a Manny Trans. Is there a writeup somewhere on how to do this?
