Does anyone have a good part # for the relay arm repair kit on a 76 Eleganza? The Trw # 12240 is no longer any good. I need to get the slack out of mine.

You'll need to get a rebuild unit.

Funny thing I noticed this morning after taking the relay arm out. It has Golby Motors name embossed on the arm. I wonder if thats the same company that used to be in the GMC business? By the way, Cinnabar has the new bushings, seals and the spool for the arm. Thanks for the suggestions..

During the safety inspection the relay arm and idler arm were replaced along with several tie-rod ends and the steering intermediate shaft with units from Cinnibar. The steering had lots of play so I had the steering box rebuilt.

There was still lots of play... Then I had new bushings from steve Ferguson installed while waiting for the engine rebuild. After the engine was re-installed I had the front end aligned.. their alignment equipment said too much play between the front wheels to align. From below I could see the problem.. too much clearance in the relay arm pivot. It would rock on the pivot point allowing the intermediate link to move up and down. The drivers front wheel could move more than an inch back and forth. Please note this idler arm was about one year old and had maybe 2,500 miles on it.

I called Dave Lenzi and he could not believe how much movement I was describing but I convinced him to sell me one of his rebuilt relay arms.. WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

Now I want to get a Dave Lenzi idler arm, but mine is not rebuildable by Dave... so any one out there have an OEM idler arm for use as a core for Dave Lenzi??

The Moral of my long story.. Only get a Dave Lenzi relay and idler arm!

I rebuilt the entire front end steering. Do it right the first time.
Use Dave Lenzi and Steve F parts. I went from +/- 30 degree slop in the
steering wheel @ 55 mph to hands off demonstrations of how tight the
system is now @ 75 mph.
