I bought this at Wally's on sale for my diesel truck but I'm thinking of using it in my GMC. Is it a good choice ?

DELO 400 LE (low emission) doesn't have the service rating for a GMC. Not enough zddp. DELO 400 is rated for a GMC. The amount of zddp varies with the weight of the oil. I use DELO 400, 40W in my tired 403 to keep the oil pressure up. The 40W is high- almost 13000 ppm. Basically, when buying oil- Look at the 'service rating'

* SJ 1225 ppm zddp
* SL 1100ppm zddp
* SM 800 ppm zddp
*CI-4 1300 ppm zddp
*CJ-4 1100 ppm zddp

Generally if the rating is 'SJ' your ok. Stay away from DELO LE's and others that show they are rated for 'CJ'or a rating of SM. An oil with a maximum rating of SJ is the best choice. For more info, check out the tech article for September 2009 http://www.gmcclassics.com/chatter/archive.html

Miguel put Delo 400 in my new engine, 15-40. I am still running it. I am on my 4th engine oil change. Label reads good and the stuff is pretty inexpensive. I did add zddp to the first 3 fillings but not this last time. Sent a sample in, the 2nd one, Monday. AND, don't forget, I got a MAGNET in my oil filter, Very Happy Dan

Now I am confused. Miguel put the le in mine and that is what I have been buying. Wally read the ratings when he was here and said it was what we needed. So, John, I need to switch to 40weight, non le?

The lub guru's say to only run multi-weight because they tend to create no or less sludge on short runs. I never have short runs. Always run for over an hour. So I like single weight. I would say that 30W Delo 400 would work great in a fresh engine like yours. Of course you will have to comply with the operating temperature range for the weight oil you intend to use. Down here 30W works well. In MO in some seasons you may need to run different single weights. However, in your case since Miguel recommends multi-weight try the Delo 400 15W-40 it's rated 'SJ' http://www.harperoil.com/pdf/techdata_chevron__delo_400.pdf

Thanks John. I will pour some zddp in this and then stop the LE use.
