Stumbled on this engine rebuilder while searching (still) for a hood / bonnet for my series 1 jaguar e type.
Question does anybody know of this companies work (how good)stuffhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250415232081
The price they are charging for 455 and if they are any good it would be worth the GMC repair shops to do a deal and use their engines.
You guys can check this out and I am sure that those out there in the know will let us know why this companies prices are so low as the parts list they show that they use look to be good.

Peter,

WOW, that's DIRT CHEAP!

I went to their on line store:

http://stores.ebay.com/HiPerformer-Auto-N-Marine-Engines

It appears that's consistent across their range!

I wonder if that is who remanned Howard Neilson's engine? He has been
quite pleased with it and has had zero problems.
That is a good price and I can see how they do it. Cast pistons,
production rings, reground camshaft or production camshaft and the
rest of the internals are pretty standard stuff. I sure like the way
they prep the blocks. Their labor costs must be very low.

MY thoughts: You get what you pay for.
Harbor freight and Buffalo tools vs. Craftsman, Kobalt, Snap On.
I would only put a low cost rebuild in a under stressed engine to be sold. JWIWD

So the engine on the Stretch is giving up the ghost (lots of oil
usage). I was thinking about a diesel upgrade (downgrade?) but GeneF
has pretty much talked me out if it. I thought about pulling the
engine and rebuilding it myself, but I'm thinking that this place may
be the place to save me a whole bunch of time. I will check and see
what heads, camshaft, and crank they use (plus other stuff). If this
is the way I go, I'll pull it apart and check everything, clean it up,
and see what it would take to put a Kryptonite camshaft into it. My
garage addition is almost done, so now I'll have a place to work on
it. We shall see.

Craftsman is on the wrong side of the vs sign...

Steve and All;
The company I used was Motor Works out of Spokane Washington State.
I like them for a number of reasons.
First they dyno the engines befor shipping.
Second they will allow you to add parts from out side companies.
I send them a cam from Jim B., push rods from Mondelo and roller rockers
from Summit.
This engine is still running strong.
Dyno run was 477.1 of torque at 3100 RPM
"That was the Sweet Spot I was looking for"
H P?
We don't need no stinking Horse Power!
Some will ask its 349.4 at 4600 RPM
Howard

Not Quite Stock.

P S How did I pick them?
I broke down coming out of Bend Oregon and the AAA sent me to a shop in Bend
that used Motor Works.

Steve;
Your are always welcome.
We like the numbers.
I have the dyno pull sheet in front me.
No B S here.
The cam was the first one Jim came up with.
I understand he now has a better cam combo.

When you look at their ad, it says the Core Deposit ($499) is included
with the shipping charge ($175). Kind of a funny way of doing things,
but I guess you get it back when the core is returned.

LTL (Less Than Truckload) freight for close to
half ton is $175 and you think that is excessive?

Doesn't seem all that unreasonable to me!

Shipping cost is listed below, the one at the top seems to include the core charge.

I had our engine rebuild not one of there cores.
No core charge when you ship your engine.
That only comes in to play if you have one of there engines shipped to you
and then you ship your core back.
Its a pain for them to run out and buy cores..
Pretty well stander stuff.
Its the same when you buy any auto part.
Thanks
Howard

Shipping cost?
Not bad.
I paid to have my 261cc inline Chevy engine shipped from Sothern Indiana to
Santee Ca.
Cost $270.00
To keep the shipping cost down have it shipped from one place to another the
has a fork lift or engine hoist.

Good pricing, probably keep the costs down since they are a "Production" shop. Volume and low cost south of the border labor pool helps too.

$175 for LTL is about right. You can always save by picking and dropping off at the LTL terminal vice having them come to your house.
