Greetings,
I have a 78 Royale I am considering selling, with a Coachmen center kitchen floorplan. This means the kitchen is on the passenger side, rear of the entry door. The refer is across from the entry door. The dry bath is to the left of the refer, in the rear is a double bed,(that is also a rear dinette). I am recently married and, my wife has a 2002 Coachmen class C with a Ford F350 chassis and a 6.8ltr V10. I have no room or desire to own 2 RV's so one must go. I really don't want to sell my GMC, but whatever one sells first ...The Royale took me on a 6200 mile excursion last summer and ran like a top. Like most of our GMCs there are some minor issues, (inoperable dash fan, Onan that works, but needs a new circuit board, and the air bags system goes through 30 amp fuses like candy). Other than that it is very clean, recent brakes, newer tires and Alcoas, has a tankless water heater ... the 403 runs like a top, the tranny shifts like a dream, and the ride is extemely quiet and smooth. Any interested parties, or thoughts on what it is worth?
Thanks,
AMDGMCMan

The coach is working and is reliable. The misc problems have nothing to do with how reliable it is. I would take it on another trip across the country tomorrow. Like any older, or even newer coach there are some minor issues to be addessed (as stated in the previous message). The previous owner, (i got the coach in 2001), interior, paint and much of the mechanics were entirely rebuilt in the mid 1990's. I have pics available.

I'd be interested in seeing some pictures also. Interesting floorplan. I can't seem to find it pictured anywhere. What is the price?

You say you have pictures, while not as good as putting eyeballs on the real coach, they would help in getting opinion's on price and ect. You should post them on the GMC photo site:
<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/>
Besides the GMC having better construction, the photo site, the Black List, and this forum are all reasons to "sell the box" and NOT to sell your GMC. In 10, 20 or even 30 years, you would be glad you got "out of the box" and kept the GMC.
I, for one, would like a coach with that floorplan. (Not sure if my marriage could survive a third coach. )

Greetings,
I sat down with my wife and showed her the responses I received when I posted this suggestion of selling my Royale and she said... "There is no way we can sell the GMC now"!She realizes how much our coaches mean to us, and this one being my fathers before me, realizes how special my Royale is to me. So if anyone knows someone that would like to buy a very clean and Xlnt running 2002 Coachman Pathfinder Ford F350, V10 Class C ...
My sincere thanks for all the support,

You would point that out just as I was beginning to think I've put enough
into Silver Lady.
I've been looking around at some great deals on SOBs that are less than 15
years old. Folks in those pushers don't seem to have much fun, however,
unless they're at a GMC rally.

Awwww man,
You knew you'd hear from me on that one! There's pros and cons. You
can get into a GMC cheap, get it usable and continue to make things
better from there. I got into mine in '96 for $12K. Far too much for
what it needed and I didn't have this (net) resource available at the
time. Here it is about a zillion dollars later. At 177K miles, it
was time for a new engine, trans, steering and tires. Very minimal
storage, tough to dry camp in and at best, 250-300 miles between gas
stops. A bit cramped for two humans and two small dogs at times.
I got into our SOB for $18K. 6 tires, one air drye, a differential
swap ($2,600.00) and 30,000 miles later, it is as ready to take on a
trip as it was new. Gets 11.3 mpg, carries 100 gal of FW and has
immense holding tanks and I stop for fuel every 900 miles. Washer
dryer, walk around queen bed, ice maker, huge battery bank and tons
upon tons of storage. It is also only 7 ft longer than the GMC (33
ft). Just hit 220,000 miles and it runs strong. 25 qts of oil every
8,000 miles ( Blackstone wants me to go farther). I do my own
maintenance.
But, all of our trips start with GMC rallys. Parly because of GMCs,
mostly of the people.
Having said all that, I still love the thing and the only reason I'd
part with this one is to get the 23 that I want and am going to be
very, very selective about buying.
There are good arguments for both and it would be difficult to chose
one over the other. Bob Lamey has a Foretravel, (very nice) and I
asked him once which one he'd sell. He said he'd go crazy trying to
figure out which one it would be.

Steve,
Truth be told, I'm about at the point you mention. Two humans and two dogs
on a long trip means using the 26 feet judiciously, especially when it's a
rear bath arrangement. The bed almost always has to be put up each day and
made out each night. That gets old.
Just recently we discussed what we want in a motorhome. It involves my love
affair with the GMC which turns to the people which turns to the poor choice
we made with a rear bath (when you like sleeping next to the person you
really love). We're not old enough and haven't been married long enough for
twin beds yet. But, getting the bed out our putting it back on a daily basis
is for someone else.
So, I start looking for a different configuration in a GMC or a different
unit all together. My searching has turned up a 30 ft pusher without
slideouts. Great listing price of $29,900 for a coach that's always been
under cover except when on the road. Only 92,000 on a Cat engine -- just
broken in well. Another great find was a 40 ft diesel with one slideout.
Lots more room. Sleeps more. Looks sleek and not flat-nosed. Appealing. All
the bells and whistles including the non-Winnebago look in and out for
$49,500. Newmar makes some nice coaches.
So Martha says: "Can we really afford two?" Hum. Check stock prices. "Let me
think about that one." It gets down to the "feeling" issue. What do you want
in a coach?
The GMC would be for short trips and rallies. The SOB would be for long
trips and working in a campground or national park, which we want to do,
since it would involve many nights. (I can't imagine doing that in a GMC and
staying married, sleeping in one bed).
From the looks of the market right now, there are a lot of good coaches for
under $50,000 that will require very little work for being road worthy and
relatively modern inside. That sure makes for competition with it comes to
selling a GMC in great shape.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So is value.
As to the subject line of this thread -- the right decision was made.

Several thoughts here, Byron.
How many nights do you spend in the coach each year? Is that
number beyond what the two of you can handle in separate beds?
Compare that with the number of nights per year in home bed.
BTW, I can't remember anything we have done in larger beds
that we haven't also done in a twin bed!
I do understand the annoyance of having to make up the beds
every day. You might wish to consider using Trav-a-sack
bedding (or whatever they're called) that you could simply
roll out or roll up! You or your lady could also sew up
a custom fitted sheet set and blanket(s) for your beds that
could do the same.
;<)
Money Pit is my first ever motorhome. We've done the tent
thing, the tent camper ('66 Apache that we still own), a
light-weight 28' AeroLite travel trailer (T.T.) and the
current 30' Cedar Creek T.T. with a slideout.
I'm tired of the hassle of setup! I also want to be able to
haul either our Harleys or our little jet-powered boat to
destinations where we can use those toys.
The only other motorhome that has ever interested me is the
Trek by Safari with the "Magic Bed" that stores at the
ceiling of the coach when not being used, thereby keeping
the overall length down.
Additionally, I have admired the GMCs ever since they were
introduced back in the day when we were still under canvas
in the 1966 Apache Gold Buffalo!
By "right decision" I gather that you are going for an SOB
in addition to the GMC.
Cheers!

under cover except when on the road.

No, referring to the original post who decided to sell the Class C on a F350
chassis. Keeping the GMC was a better choice if keeping only one.
Our bed situation is this. We don't have a bed. We have to undo the couch
(home made jack knife) that gets in the way of going to and from the rear
bath. The edge (unfolded) is eight inches from the couch on the opposite
side.
We got the rear bath because we thought it was the only thing with a dry
bath and Martha, at that time, thought she couldn't tolerate a wet bath. She
has since realized the folly or that opinion.

Byron,
I have to admit that I probably would never have considered owning
two motorhomes but for these factors:
The minute I stepped in this Beaver Savannah, I liked it.
The price.
Short, waaay overpowered pusher.
The PO is fanatical about maintenance and everything he owns is top
of the line.
Last year we spend all but three months on the road. It would have
been more if I'd had my way.
We love that TravaSack on top of the Bear bed (TX to Chuck and Mary
Botts). The only way to go.

The other option is to gut the thing and leave it with Tom Bradley.
He's done several (Bruce Tara used his patterns) and they are just
stunning inside. A lot lighter materials too.
It just bothers the heck out of me to mess with something that is
finished and works perfectly but that appears to be my only option.
