G'day,
Wesley, as you can see below Fred V noted that you wired your Brisk Air roof
A/C to a remote thermostat but had problems. I just purchased two Brisk Air
roof A/C's and would appreciate learning if you were successful and how you
wired them into a remote thermostat.
The problem with the thermostats in the units is that it sets the temp at
the outlet on the ceiling NOT at bed level! I have lots of natural
insulation but Helen gets too cold!

day and i tried to follow the wiring from the thermostat and discovered it

Some time ago before I got my GMC I had a 10 1/2 ft camper that I installed a window a/c in the rear wall. I wanted a remote thermostat in it so I added a small single pole cont actor (25 amp contacts) 24 volt ac coil and a 40 VA 120 to 24 volt transformer . I mounted a Robert Shaw home type thermostat (bi metal spring type) to control it. If I were doing this to my Du therm a/c I would do it the same way except I would use a digital thermostat to control it. If you didn't want to use a transformer you could use a similar 12 volt DC coil relay with the digital thermostat. The whole thing boils down to the remote stat needs to be fed by low voltage and low current. I forgot to mention the old thermostat in the Du Therm wires connect to the contactor terminals ( they are both basically N.O. switches).

Thanks for this, when I did a Google search the US website never popped up
or I missed it!
At any rate I have sent an email to the Customer Support asking if it was
possible, what thermostat to use, and how to wire it.

If you use Goole to search the Internet using Duo Therm Wall Thermostat you
will find several sites, including the mfg. Dometic, that have information
about kits available for Duotherm Air Conditioners. I am not sure which
models these tit but apparently they are a "plug and play" setup.

has analog and digital models that can control the air conditioner, furnace
and heat strip.

Sorry, the PO had it installed. I didnt have any problems with it, I didnt know what it was for. One day the a/c didnt work and I couldnt find the problem, so I ran an extenion cord for a year because I thought the supply line had a break in it. Thats when Fred asked me if I had time to check it out. Felt likea fool when he discovered I had an a/c thermo.

Thanks!
Hopefully I will get an answer from Dometic Customer Support that will
explain which thermostat to use and how to wire it!
As far as not knowing that it was part of the A/C system goes I'll bet just
about every GMC owner has a PO story like that! ;-)

I have an older Penguin unit that I think the control board has gone bad and removed it. I have a new one ordered but I took the old one out for comparison. The old one has two screw connections for a remote unit. The A/C unit is over 15 years old so they must have been making them available for some time.

All I can say is any a/c unit that is making and breaking 120 volts to the compressor (both of mine are doing it this way) would need a contactor added.This is the way residential a/c units are wired at least they were when I was working in the a/c service industry. If they are making and breaking low voltage(12v dc )with solid state circuits they would just need a remote thermostat either a hard wired type or a wireless type. Obviously a thermostat supplied by the manufacturer would be the easiest to install. It sounds like your Penguin breaks low voltage or has a remote circuit already in it. One of my Du therms is the original and the other is a mid 80's unit. A lot of the newer stuff is a real pain making you spring for a new special circuit board rather then replacing an inexpensive component.
