So long as I'm fiddling with the Onan I might as well ask about my starting issue. Many times when I try to start the Onan the starter will not engage the flywheel, but just free-wheels. I'm wondering if this is a symptom of a broken starter mount, or maybe in the Onan's dotage she's losing some teeth.
It always engages in time, but if it's an easy fix, then I'm able to do easy!

Larry,
Could be that the solenoid is not kicking the Bendix into the flywheel.
Remove the starter and clamp it down. Connect the starter case to the
negative post of a car battery. Connect the positive post of the battery to
the large post on the solenoid. Connect a jumper lead from the large 12 vdc
post on the solenoid to the small post on the solenoid. The solenoid should
engage, push the Bendix forward, and the starter should turn.

Rob,
I'll bet he'll know after step one whether it's a broken starter bracket.
:-)
Sorry, couldn't help myself.
