Mitch,
I have had this unit on the coach since 2000 and added the heat strip
about 2 years ago. You can add the heat strip to this one for about
$45, by all means get it.

From an Aerodynamic point of view, it is very poor.
Carrier is better all around and are still available.

It's your coach,you can slap on any unit you choose.

The covers go to crap after a few years in the sun. On the brigter side, the original Fiberglass covers bolt directly on. Even the holes line up. I have a 1994 unit on the front of my coach. Works OK, but not as cold as the 1975 vintage unit on the back of my coach. Both are 13.5's

I don't have this unit but I use a single DUO-THERM 13.5K BTU Penguin. I installed a heat strip 5 years ago which took all of about 15 minutes to install, but I'm not sure if they are still available. For that price I don't think you can go wrong. I only have the one on the roof. I've been to Florida in Aug. and it was almost able to keep up with the tropical sun and heat during the day. If and when I ever have to replace my unit I think I would go the 15,000 BTU route just for that minor additional cooling.

P.S. I checked out the site and it looks like they are still offering the heat strip. I would pick one up if you go the DUO-THERM route. ..but my experience is that a heat strip works great on 50 AMPs but not worth squat on 30 AMPS.

Jim,
I bought two of them with heat strips. The price was SAD! Such A Deal!
From where I sit the following advantages of having two roof A/C's are:
1) Will probably turn a GMC into a meat locker (15,000 BTU in the biggest
single vs. 27,000 BTU)
2) Pull down time is much faster
3) If one unit fails you still got air
4) Turn the rear air up to max after a hot shower and it cools you down
quick before beddy bye!
5) Two heat strips will provide a lot of heat
Question: I looked at the wiring diagram for these puppies but being
electrically challenged I couldn't tell if they could be wired into a remote
thermostat like the Carrier units, anybody know?

Rob: In general terms, most RV AC units use a line voltage thermostat with the sensor bulb in the return air path. They cannot be easily converted to a low voltage wall thermostat system, without relays and other hard to add on equipment. It is one of those things that is $$ related to the manufacturer, line voltage control being easier and less expensive to build.

Wesley Chalk has one wired to a wall thermostat. he was unable to get the AC to run so he had run an extension cord to it. we were messing with it one day and i tried to follow the wiring from the thermostat and discovered it was the AC not the furnace. i don't know how it is wired but i didn't see a relay anywhere.

Rob,
ANNIE came with the roof A/C in the center and FanTastic vents fore and aft. One A/C is fine here in Virginia and the unit has never given me problem in the 5-6 years that we have had it.
Of course now my daughter wants me to come visit Florida more often and is even putting some suddle pressure for me to sell the house and move to Florida full time. For now I'll stay here (house is paid for) and commute 4 or 5 times a year.
