Folks, I pulled my carb today for rebuild.
I have what appears to be a Chevy carb.
7046222
704- It was used on 1970 to 1975 GM vehicles
6- 1976 production date
2- Its a quadrajet 4bbl federal standards
2- Chevrolet
2- automatic transmission.
Anyone else running one of these? I'm assuming it is from a 454. It works, but bogs at WOT acceleration. The Accel pumps don't appear to work...

Chris,
Sorry to hear that it's off a Chevy, here's a link to Gene's website re the
carbs:
http://gmcmotorhome.info/engine.html#carb
Here's the info you will find at that link:
QUOTE
CARB NUMBERS
The carb number is on the left side of the carb, on the flat surface above
the throttle shaft. The number will run vertically, and there will also be a
number which is the day of the year and the last digit of the year it was
manufactured.
73 & 74, 455's 7043254
75 & 76, 455's Federal 7045254 Calif. 7045554
77 403's Federal 17057254 Calif. 17057559
78 403's Federal 17058254 Calif. 17058559
the parts list for the Quadrajet carb used on the GMCMH. To view, go to
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=4685&ppuser=517

Unfortunately Dick Patterson only rebuilds carbs that have the part numbers
listed in the link above. He does not convert them.
Below is an email I posted awhile back:

STOP THE PRESSES!
Look what I just stumbled on to on the Holley Reman website:
http://www.holley.com/BrowseCatalogs.asp?Catalog=Reman&Page=261
The first numbers are listed here and continue to page 264.
Rochester
O.E. Number Sales No.
7043254 64-7256
7045254 64-7256
7045554 64-7256

17057559 Not listed
17058254 64-7259
17058559 Not listed (CA Carb)
Now whether they have these carbs in stock is another question!
Here's the contact info I would suggest that someone in the USA give them a
call and see what they can find out:

I am just out of the carborator nightmare. So far so good, but I have all my fingers crossed.
The rebuilt carb sent was not a GMC motorhome carb so.......
My mechanic gets into these things just for interest, and I am the only carborator GMC motorhome he works on now but I am sure he would be willing to take on another.
He explained the differences to me but my brain leaks over time.
There is a difference in the body, if I am recalling right, it is longer or has an additional port, creates power and vacuum.
I beleive he said the tubes are a slight larger size which gives more power.
The just of the conversation was the GMC motorhome carb was better suited for the heavy GmC than the off the shelf car carb.
The rebuild I was sent was an off the shelf carb for a car, it does not match the numbers for a GMC motorhome carb but at this point, IT IS RUNNING!!!! After all I went through, I am accepting the lesser power just to keep going and have the nightmare over.
LarC ( If I had my Druthers, I would prefer the GMC Motorhome carb )

I wonder what carburetors the old Gas Uhaul trucks had? I know some had that wierd 366 heavy duty V8, but I'm sure the carburetors were matched for heavy loads...
...Then again maybe not. Those old trucks drove like shit.
Maybe Bob has some info?

So given that I thought I had a Chevy Carb, I figured, what the heck, I'll find the right kit and do a quick rebuild myself to tide me over until I make the FI plunge. It's only been like, what, 20 years since I last rebuilt a carb? I took it apart to get to the gaskets so I could match them. I also cleaned the carb and low and behold, I found another number. Still not one of the right numbers for a GMC, but it was 7045554. That one crossed to a Walker rebuild kit #151034. The kit matched the carb. All the gaskets are correct. I was lucky that the two plugs on the bottom don't leak, they looked good as new. This carb is in relatively good shape. Qjets are easier to rebuild than Rochester single jet carbs. I just finished cleaning up, and tomorrow I will clean up the manifold a bit, find or make a new gasket for the heat stove thingy (As it appears that it is a potential cause of engine fires) and put the carb back on. I may need to make a new fuel line, as the one on the coach is buggered up and stuck to the fuel inlet housing/filter holder. That's tomorrow's challenge. Wish me luck.

Good luck! If you do too good a job you may never get that fuel injection installed!

Well after decarboning the intake bores, I can see plain as day the crack between the secondaries...
Maybe I'll get an alum intake manifold...
anyone know where to get the heat stove gasket in the mean time?

The B Block 366 Chevys in the Ryder trucks in the 70s had a Holley carb with vac secondaries. So don't waist your time in search of a Qjet.
