Okay, gang. I have my new master cylinder and I have pre-bled it
according to the instructions that accompanied it. Bought it at
NAPA as they were only ones that had new, even though made in China.
The only other source was Advance Auto and they only had rebuilt.

Do I start bleeding the lines at the front disks or at the right
rear as that seems to be the longest distance?

Just an FYI for those folks with a '77-'78, in the '77-'78 maintenance supplement they changed the sequence to reduce "the possibility of having to rebleed wheel cylinders a second time to eliminate air from the system". Passenger rear, Passenger middle, Driver rear, Driver middle, Passenger Front, Driver front

Many thanks, Rob.

Just what I needed, but I don't have the maintenance manual yet.

Well, now I am really confused. This is what I had
expected would be more correct. Bleed longest lines
first and then work forward.

What's a fella to do? Is there a pertinent difference
between the hydraulic lines between 77-78 and earlier?
Or did this change arrise from practical experience.

From the old days when I first learned to bleed brakes I was taught to bleed
the wheel cylinder furthest from the master cylinder and work your way
back. Kind of like the rules
of golf - furthest away etc.

I think this has been the recommended method since the introduction of juice
brakes vs.
mechanical brakes - when it didn't matter which wheel was adjusted first.

Mac,

AFIK the brake system plumbing did not change so I'd say it was practical
experience.

I'm going to make a copy of the later manual's instructions and insert the
page in my early manual.

BTW I apologize for misleading you; from now on before I provide Maintenance
Manual reference material I will check; X-7525, X-7625, and X-7725!

You can get a DVD of the manual from Tom Lins; see eBay 110527832871.

I didn't mean to confuse, I have done this recently, and since I have a '78 I check the supplement first out of habit.

Tony,

I think it's great that you brought it up!

I wonder how many people bled the brakes as noted in the X-7525 manual only
to wind up with air in the lines cursing the guys that wrote the manual!
