I was suspecting my front shocks were toast so today I disconnected the top bolt on a front shock and there isn't much damping to be felt.

I've looked around and most info on what is best seems to be from 98 till 2001. Whats the recommended shock manufacturer and Part No. these days. I seem to recall reading that Bilstein was good, but recently people have had some bad experiences with them.

thanks

We have KYBs on our coach. My mechanic found that Bilstein doesn't stand
behind the warranty well. He's had no problem with KYB's. He has them on his
coach and four others he takes care of.

Kanomata has the six-pack deal if interested in getting all around.
Otherwise, you'll need to specify front end only.

Thanks Byron, got your email too.

I was hoping to get away this weekend, so I'm going to look locally first. Darn border always puts the shipping costs and transit times up.

Bruce, that is what I have also, KYB. I like them. When I pulled the Delco shocks from the front they just fell in. Nothing. PO stuck them on a year before I bought the coach. I would stick with KYB if you can find them locally. If not, Jim will send them as fast as he can. One thing about him, he is the fastest shipper I have ever dealt with.

The Bilsteins are optimum for the front but the stroke is too damned short for the rears. I broke 3 of 4 on the rears recently. Two locked in the extended position and one blew out. I would not hesitate to run them on the front but not on the rears. I have not had any problem with warrantee coverage from Bilstein but I go to the factory in person here in San Diego. Even so I would go with KYBs on the rear but I think the Bilstein is a much better shock for the front. It comes down to design characteristics.

We have KYB's all the way around on the GMC and Koni FSD's on the SOB.
Wish Koni made the FSD's for the GMC but the economics are not there.

After blowing the seals out of 3 Bilstiens, I switched to KYBs. No
problems since. In the past few years, Bilstien has tightened up on
their warranty policy.

I personally haven't had any problems with my rear Bilsteins but I had a broken front one. So, I put two new KYBs up front and think they run far better than the Bilsteins, which have a much harsher ride in my opinion. Plus, I got a two for one deal from Jim K for returning the good Bilstein to him - they wouldn't have warrantied it for me anyway since they were purchased by the PO. Doesn't sound like he fared much better, although he did say he uses the old shocks for "testing"(?).

Jim,

I think Bilstein would balk at bringing in a ton of them at once. But when an individual brings in one or two with a retail receipt, they usually rebuild them for you but it takes a coupla of days normally.

They offer to rebuild the shocks, Yes they offer it but my customers
will not go with a program like that.
They publish lifetime warranty. Maybe they should rephrase that and
say "Life time Rebuilding"
I would expect hat type of service from the Japanese, not Germans.
We do sell both brands so when someone comes in with a defective
Bilstine, I need t replace for him under the warrenty and cry about
it.

It depends. If you want shock mounts for floor machinery, McM is your spot.
