Thanks to all who cleared up the differences for him.
This is Ken Furra's response.

"Hi Dave:

It is definitely turbo-charged. The engine is coupled to the stock Olds
front wheel drive 425 transmission, using a B-O-P adapter. I noticed an
electric box under the dash that I think controls the shifting, but that
part is a mystery to me so far. I'm pretty sure it also uses the
original
differential gearing.

Thanks for the Thermo-San info.

Cheers
Ken

David, it would also be nice to know what kind of mileage he gets with that engine. The box may well be the "brain" for the fuel injection if it is the electronic Pump and it would have a PMD (pump mounted device) which controls the metering as well as EGR, O2 and EGT sensors.

I drove an '85 Suburban with a 6.2L diesel for 400,000 miles. Car wore out - transmission and engine never had a wrench to them. IMHO a great engine. I don't think the turbos get as good mileage, but probably more power.

I have a 1997 Chevy 1-ton dually CrewCab 4x4 with the 6.5L diesel
in it and I really like it. If and when the 455 goes bad in the
Stretch, my plans are to replace it with a 6.5L diesel. Just got to
find the right one. There is a write-up somewhere by Hubler (sp?) that
documents what is needed to do the conversion. I think it is either on
Gene's or Bdub's site. I just can't find the link to it on either
site.
