Hey All;

Pulled into a Flying-J in Lodi, CA yesterday to fill up with some
gas and dump some tanks. Gas was OK, but now this Flying-J has
installed something called Sani-Star (www.sanistardump.com) on their
dump stations. Costs $5 to dump. Has anyone seen these on any other
Flying-J dump stations (or anywhere else)? I'm kind of upset by it
all...

There were some comments made here a day or two ago regarding
the level of investment by commercial companies to provide
services and products. If I remember correctly, it outlined
costs of vehicle, insurance, building, secretarial help, and
a whole lot of other things just to clean out your drainpipes.

While the free dump stations offered by several fuel vendors
has been a really neat "bennie" for many years, in today's
tough business climate it is hardly unexpected that recovering
a bit of the expense of what had been free would now require
recovering a small portion of the costs to provide that service.

Pump-out service at marinas can run up to as much as $20 or more!
Marina pump-outs that were subsidized by the federal government
may not charge more thatn $5. I don't know what our marina may
be charging those who don't rent slips there or don't buy fuel,
but I don't get charged. I do tip the dock boys and/or girls
who do that nasty job $5 per trip.

States (such as Oklahoma) who previously had free dump stations
at their rest areas have closed them down. This is mainly due
to the abuse of the PRIVILEGES by scum-bag users who left the
areas with holding tank contents spilled all over the place.
The states, most of which are in financial difficulty, simply
can't afford continuing costs of cleaning/maintaing dump stations.

People who run RVs costing as much as 1/2 million dollars have
no cause to bitch because somebody wants $5 for them to dump
their crap!

Probably a new profit item since Pilot took them over a while back. I also see a lot of them selling alcohol diluted gas now just like Pilot.

Certainly, Byron.

Just remember that my opinion, at its best,
is worth only what you paid for it unless
you value it more highly.

I didn't care for them buying Williams truck stops. Now that they on
Flying-J, the only targets left are Love's, Petro and TA. Who will be next

Inflationary pressure makes it 3 cents.

Darn good opinion. It goes well with my story about retailing and only being
able to address two of the three -- product, service, price.

I believe that the Williams operation was about to go toes up and
the buyout was basically a rescue!

Also, I believe that Love's is also a privately, or at least closely,
held company. Started here in Oklahoma by a man who I believe is
a member of the Chickasaw Nation.

I didn't care for them buying Williams truck stops. Now that they on
Flying-J, the only targets left are Love's, Petro and TA. Who will be next
to fall?

The Chevron station near my house charges $8. It's on the Reservation. They also charge 20 cents more per gallon for gas than anyone else plus 10 cents for non cash buyers. If I am lucky, there is someone working who can fill my propane tanks, and there is usually not. Mad

$5 is reasonable. I have seen the mess some A-holes leave. Arizona rest stops have free dumping, but they are all closed now... Rolling Eyes

Most RV storage lots have free dumping.

Most of us who are on sanitary sewers have clean outs in our front yards.

My clean out is in reach of my Macerator hose. Cannot wait to use it in front of the neighbors! Shocked

I like Love's. You can tell by their website that there seems to be a caring
difference. The one closest to us has finally become competitive with gas
prices. For the last year or so they've been a nickel higher.

I'm hoping they're able to make it and stay privately held.

I also preferred Williams over Pilot. Williams was better run but didn't
always pick the best of locations.
