Can someone explain the role of the over ride spring and pivot on the rear brake shoes. In putting things back together I discovered my 77 Kingsley does not have it. Was this changed or perhaps get lost on someones earlier brake job?
Saw a good looking GMC headed North on I-15 toward Great Falls yesterday. Two bicycles on the back.

I think you are referring to the self-adjuster mechanism, which uses a couple of links and springs, to engage the toothed wheel and rotate out the adjuster mechanism that holds the two brake shoes apart at the bottom of the brake. It is activated by using the brakes fairly hard and repeatedly while traveling in reverse. Some people take them off for reasons that escape me.
