In case anybody is interested, these wheels showed up on the Tucson Craig's List. They look like the 'domed' center wheels that will fit our coaches. I have a set of P.O. installed ones on my coach and they work great. Dirt cheap alternative to Aluminum wheels.

I'd bet that those are what a P.O. installed on my
coach, the 1976 New Braunfels ex-P.B. that I have
named "Money Pit." Mine are chrome plated.

There is a market for these even if you have Aluminum wheels. They make very good spare tire rims.

When replacing your 16 inch tires you keep the best old tire and have it mounted on a steel wheel.

If no one wants the set, someone should pick these up and take them to a rally.

Peter,

I will call the guy today and go have a look at them. Like I said, I have 16" steel Chev/GMC truck wheels on my coach plus a spare loose wheel that I can easily get a number off of. I'm not sure I can actually look at them today, but I will ASAP if you are interested.

Peter,

While I have been keeping an eye out for wheels for you in the northwest, to be honest you didn't come to mind when I read the first post. But... I did realize the value of the rims.

I think a good 'look' would be like the "rally wheels" on some GM cars... Body color rims with beauty rings and some kind of shiny center piece. (Baby moons?) It would set the coach out of the crowd of Alcoa wheels rigs. Not that you have a crowd of GMC's where you are!

Others,

I understand Peter's "normal - least price" shipper ships out of the Seattle area. Are there GMC'ers that are going to the Alburn rally (Northern Ca) that could help a fellow GMC'er by carrying these wheels on a leg of a trip to down under? (Tucson AZ to Alburn CA to Seattle WA to be slipped into a container...)

G'day Carl,

I spotted the original email re these wheels this morning and gave Peter a
shout. He was out and about but when he got home he rang back and we had a
yak about them and he noted that he had emailed the seller.

It's 12:30 AM in Adelaide where Peter lives and I am pretty sure he is NOT a
night owl like me and is probably sound asleep!

He REALLY needs these wheels so he can re-register his vehicle with historic
plates. Currently it costs him $2800 per year on regular registration
because a GMC is considered a heavy vehicle because it weighs over 4.5
metric tons!

I am sure Peter would REALLY appreciate if you would go over and check out
those wheels ASAP. If they are the correct ones BUY THEM on the spot! I'm
sure he'll take them. If for any reason he doesn't want them I'll take them
and ship them to Australia. I have Alcoa's on The Blue Streak and hang on to
these for the next GMC owner here that needs them. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get
16.5 inch tires here!

Mike,

Thanks for noting the shipping as Peter said that's how he'd get them
Downunder!

Peter,

I will call the guy today and go have a look at them. Like I said, I have
16" steel Chev/GMC truck wheels on my coach plus a spare loose wheel that I
can easily get a number off of. I'm not sure I can actually look at them
today, but I will ASAP if you are interested.

The 76 coach I bought is still up on eBay. There is a picture
of a front wheel. These are 16 inch wheels and are chrome
plated steel wheels. They __MAY__ be the same as those in the
Craig's List posting. Mine have a piece similar to a pie tin
between the wheels and the lug nuts upon which the hubcaps are
installed.

I will probably check to see if I can get chrome lugnuts to
spiff up the coach at some time after necessary mechanical
upgrades are done.

Mac,

I looked real close at the pictures a while back... Have you checked the spare to see if it will clear the brakes? It looks like the "cone" type that have issues with the brakes. Crying or Very Sad

I have seen these as mounted as spares on quite a few coaches but have never seen them actually INSTALLED on a "running" position. Check before counting on it. If it doesn't fit, why carry it around?

I just got off the phone with the guy with the wheels. Unfortunately, he lives about 25 miles southwest of where I am and will not be home until after 4:00 this afternoon. He said the wheels are on a first come basis, so I will try to get out there as close to 4:00 as I can and snag them. Any other day beside Monday this would not be a problem, but on Mondays my mother comes over to eat with us and I usually do the cooking. I'll just have to prevail on my poor wife to cook tonight!

I will do my best to get them for you, Peter.

Thanks for the tip, Mike.

When I replaced the tires on the day I bought
the coach, I just bought six tires.

I will check the fit of the spare when I get
the coach REALLY ready for use. I need to find
a place to do the rear brakes, and that would
probably be a good time/place to check it out.

Okay, I got the wheels for Peter. It turned out that the seller lived about 40 miles from my office, 45 miles from my home. About 15 miles across town and 25 miles in the boonies. I almost ran over a coyote, three javalina, a herd of mule deer, a Gila monster and two rattle snakes, Whew! Australia isn't the only place with an 'Outback'. The trip took two and a half hours. To top it all off, I blew a tire on the way home (my fault, the tires on my Jeep are over eight years old and worn out anyway). No problem, had a spare..It was flat. No problem, had a compressor, pumped it up, was on my way again in fifteen minutes!

At this point, we need someone to step up and get them from Tucson to L.a. or Seattle so Peter can get them shipped to Australia.

Is there a part number or other information anywhere on the wheels? I'm interested in finding what vehicles they originally were fitted on.
