Can anyone tell me exactly what to look for (ie. the markings on the side of
the jug) when shopping for oil. I know Mobile One is good and works very
well for me, but there is so much I don't know.
What about diesel oil? Can we use it in our engines?
And what about the frequently abused Onan? Originally, we were supposed to
put #30 in there...what is the conventional wisdom to replace 30 weight?

Dick Patterson did a talk on this subject at a rally somewhere, but I can't
find my notes....and if I could, I likely couldn't read that hen scratching
anyway.

Thanks

At Rayne 2007 I had the good fortune of attending a Patterson seminar. One oil Patterson said was OK is Rotella 5-40 synthetic in the blue jug. That is for broken in engines. Walmart has it for $19/gallon. I've had the heads off to replace guides and it didn't leave any weird deposits like some synthetics do. I'm using it in the Onan also. My notes say CI-4 rating is OK too.
