Well, we arrived home last week after covering about 6500 miles over a 3 mo period of time.
Menomonie Wi to Crossville TN
Crossville to Jacksonville Fl.
Jacksonville to Harlingen Tx
Harlingen to Montgomery Tx
Montgomery to Branson Mo.
Branson to Menomonie.

I am happy to report that the only trouble we had on the whole trip was a perceived Macerator problem...turned out to be a loose hose clamp. Ran perfect...burned one quart of oil and countless gallons of gas (I don't even want to know). In spite of cooler than normal temps, we had a GREAT time staying at many State and local Parks, and a 30 day stay in a Harlingen RV park...just to see what that would be like. (won't do that again).

Gonna do it again next winter...this time to the South West part of the country. Over the last couple of hundred miles of our trip, we were actually NOT looking forward to coming home. The only reason we came home was to do the taxes. Next year we'll apply for an extension and stay out till May.

Larry,

Glad to hear you made it home and had such a GMC-uneventful trip. We sure
enjoyed having y'all here and I really appreciated you helping me get the
Cad project started.

Sorry you won't be back next year, but maybe we'll meet up in the SW -- we
hope to pass that way headed to the NW.

Speaking of the Cad: Didn't you mention having trouble stopping leakage at
the front crankshaft seal? From your oil mileage, you apparently corrected
it -- how? After every one of my 25 mile test runs, I find oil dripping
from the front torsion bar (right beneath the crank seal) and on top of the
main crossmember, with smearing on the engine's front plate. It looks as if
it's all coming from the front seal -- BUT, there's not a dab of oil
anywhere on the crank hub! None, nada! I'm baffled.

Why the comment you "won't do that again"?

Does that mean you didn't like staying at a RV park or 30 days in one place or??????

Just curious.

Glad to here that you had a good trip. It was nice to see you both at
Montgomery.

It is good to hear of long trips with a GMC without troubles.
Our last three long trips have also gone well. Santa Fe to Santa Rosa,
CA to Denver to home. Santa Fe to Michigan to Phidelphia to Delaware
to home. And this last one, Santa Fe to Florida (1800 miles) to
Montgomery, TX (1000 miles) to Denver (1000 miles). We'll be doing the
450 miles to home next Tuesday.

We usually just hear of the problems on the GMC net so some people are
afraid to go very far from home

Ditto, Bob. We'd like to know the reason "won't do that again". So far,
the longest time we've stayed in one RV park was 10 days in Watson Lake,
Canada--not a place to spend much time--waiting for our friends to meet us
to go on to Alaska, but we can say we enjoyed our time there.

Oh...we just found that 30 days in one place is not for us. We *really* liked staying at the state parks. Reasonable fees, nice facilities, elbow room, lots to see in and outside of park, and met lots of really nice people.

Man,
You got that right. As with any adventure in a motorhome, it's the
trip, not the destination. Seems like we just get settled and the
gypsy bug bites. I even get restless at rallys and conventions
sometimes.
This is the last day of the Jet Setters Bisbee rally for us. What a
unique location. Tiny park situated about 800' above the Lavender
Pit. All sites are back in and most of them rest on the lip of the
pit. Incredible views out of most of the GMC rear windows.
Here's a few pics:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=3661
In the one with the GMCs lined up, that first Birchaven is Wallace's
coach. That couple bought it from Mrs Wallace after he passed away.
They've had it for 10 or so years. Nice 23".
50's at night, 70 - 80 during the day. Yesterday the entire town of
Bisbee was closed to auto traffic as they had their annual car show in
the streets. Festival atmosphere in this modern day art colony.

Yaaa...ya know, with no exceptions, every place we stopped over night, someone came up to us and asked about our coach...

What is that?
How old is it?
How many are there?
Front wheel drive???
Nice rig!!
I had one of those...wish I still had it.
My (Dad, step dad, cousin, neighbor) had one of those.
I love the styling..

The coach was always a source of conversation...and my coach isn't that nice!! Sure makes traveling fun.

Steve,
That's one section of Slab City. Even if you don't spend a night
there, you have to stop by and check it out if you're near the Salton
Sea.

Looking at a map I've been close to the Salton Sea as we were at the Anza-Borrego Desert and Borrego Springs after the America's cup at San Diego once. I can't find a "Slab City" in Cali on the mapping programs.

There are a lot of areas out there I would like to visit but so far time has been limited. So far we have done Rt 66 on the bike and several trips to north of LA for relatives but that is about it.

Steve,

Look for 33°15′32″N 115°27′59″W or 33.25889°N 115.46639°W or 33.25889; -115.46639 on your mapping software.

Or

Find Niland Ca and go north-east on Beal Rd to find a place marked as Camp Dunlap.

Years ago on a Route 66 tour we though we might use it as a stop, but it turned out to be a long ways out of our intended track.
