To the group:
Years ago, we were traveling somewhere and came to a sign set.
The first sign said something like
"Construction Ahead - Stay in Your Lane"
The next sign said
"Merge 1 to 1 in the zone ahead"
The third sign said
"Merge Zone, Blend 1 to 1 Now"
This is all from an unrecorded memory and may not be completely accurate or even close, but the idea was good and it worked great. It worked so well that I expected to see more of it but have never seen it again.
Has anybody else out there ever seen such a thing?
If yes, do you recall where and/or when?
I will be asking the same question on several groups, but this worked so well that I would really like to remember where it was.
Thank You
Matt

I'm not sure this will help answer your question Matt but
understanding lane numbering might help. (Where's Rick when you need
him?). The number 1 lane is the closest to the center line divider.
Lanes are numbered from the inside to the outside.
To Norm, I have seen much of what you describe and I like it. I seems
more and more big rigs are blocking access to line jumpers in merge
situations. There's always some Adam Henry out there that is much
more important than you are and has a more important destination that
yours and has to cut the line as a result. It appear that the
truckers disagree!

I used to have a 1 1/2 hour commute to work, one way.
One of the routes included I 88, the final leg to get to work.
for a period of a month, all mut one lane was shut down for construction causing MILES of backup and a great time loss for me.
The lane on the left was shut down and the lane on the right was merged into.
Most of us tried to get into the right lane, preparing for the passage through construction while the left lane continued to flow up to the point where merging occured.
The CB became alive with some what discriptive wording describing the truckers thoughts of the drivers passing by and causing the right line to come to a standstill.
there was a colloberation between two trucks, one to save a space and the other to move out and block the invaders, next thing you know, there was an 18 wheeler pulled into the left lane.
After a couple of " better than you " drivers passed on the shoulder to pass the 18 wheeler, a few more 18 wheelers pulled into the left lane and if the shoulderpassers tried to get by, the truck actually pulled over to the shoulder......
Legally, the truck is wrong, blocking traffic is not an option. The option is to move to the front and merge when safe. But there are those that won't let the mergers in, thinking they are trying to cut ahead. It is more a choice of if you want to try to move ahead to merge or move over sooner and avoid the merge at the point.
Personally, I like what the truckers did, we all moved ahead evenly and went on our way, but legally, it could be a problem for the truckers.

G'day,
Keep in mind that we drive on the left Downunder. We have what are called
"Clearways" on multi lane city streets. The left most lane is used for
parking except for rush hours when people must "clear" it or be towed. Most
people will stay out of that lane when it is not a Clearway as cars are
parked there. However, some people will use that lane to pass. The problem
is that they have to pull back in again quickly when they come upon a parked
car. I have fun with people that come up that lane when I'm stopped at a
traffic light. I watch for them and when I see one coming I put on my signal
and start to pull into the lane. I can't get into the lane as I don't have
enough space between me and the car in front but I do get far enough to stop
them from getting past. I then wait for the light to turn green and get
halfway into the lane and when it's too late for them to zip past I pull
back into my lane.
