Paul,
Like every plan, I have a backup. The coach I want is not being
actively sold. However, if it is, there's one exactly like it with
less miles on it for sale here in Tucson. I tend to lean towards AZ
coaches as better because of their minimal exposure to elements other
than the sun. I have pics but won't post them as the coach is nearly
100 percent original except for the Alcoas. (Seen one you've seen
them all type thing.) The sun kills paint out here dries out gaskets
but that's about the worst of it.
I do not already have it.

| Steve, As a back-up to your back-up, I have a 1978 rear bath Birch that I would sell you.
Our current plan is to use it while I redo the '73, but I am flexible. While our rear bath Birch isn't bad, we just found we prefer a side bath layout. (Mostly we like the rear bed.) In fact, I really like the layout of your current coach... just can not afford it right now.
Just wondering, have you ever USED a rear bath coach? It might not be what you expect...

I think that it would pretty hard to spin your GMC end to end.
I have always put my newest tires on the front as it's a front wheel
drive.

Mike,
No I have never used a rear bath. I like the side bath, it is about
how much room I had for 26 years in the USN. SHE doesn't like it and
although she uses it, she would prefer something that is less
claustrophobic.
Send me some pics and details please. Never hurts and right now all
options are open.

Steve,
I took some pictures not long after I bought it. I haven't changed much. I am not a perfectionist or a Craftsman so I think about things for a long time and am slow to action. I think the idea is "Do as little harm as possible."
I have been meaning to post a few of the pictures, so now I have a reason.
SHE (my wife) thought about the same about bathrooms. But in practice the rear bath didn't help her "bathroom complex" very much and missed the "bedroom" that is separate from the living area. Often one of us likes to stay up while the other sleeps. A side dry bath might meet both requirements, but I have other issues with them.
Anyway...
May I suggest that you borrow a rear bath coach and use it on a trip. (Her too.) It might save you a lot of time and money. While a bit out of the way, you COULD take my coach to a northwest rally or something. (Other than tailgate type things, I only really USE it about once a year.)
---
Is there anyone out there who has used the different types of baths you can share their experiences?

that is a beautiful coach and a bargain at 30K. Every GMC costs $25K regardless of if you start with a fixer or buy a 15K coach. Skip the work, pay a small premium, and get one of the best available. I'm jealous of whoever ends up with this one. I'm over 20K into mine and it's nowhere close. I'd be at 40K-50K at least before it could even superficially look this good.
Of course, to make myself feel better about the drool that is pouring out of my mouth right now... are those actually original captains chairs up front? and no matter how nicely done, I really hate the raised doghouse.
and if I could buy the coach those minor, stupid, and completely unworthy complaints would be ignored in a heartbeat...
Thanks,

Jeremy,
They are not the originals. They are out of an Astro van. The
originals aggravated my back and I wanted ones with drop down arm
rests and adjustable lumbar supports. These fill the bill quite
nicely and are featherweight.
Thanks for the compliments on the coach. The underside looks as nice
as the topside.
