Well folks, we are joining the cult!! Lisa and I have just gotten off the phone with Emma Burner in Fullerton California and a deal has been made!!! We now own Ed and Emma's 78 Royale. The coach is at Miguel's and will be having some work done to make sure it is ready for many more years of making memories. We have made the decision to have Miguel rebuild the 403. Compression was good but there are two cylinders showing oil on the plugs. This is a high mileage coach so we will take advantage of having it at Miguels to take care of everything. The coach has ceramic coated headers which will stay but the rest of the exhaust will be modernized. If funding permits (which I doubt) we are considering switching the 342 gearing to 370's.

We want to thank all the people on the list who have helped make this possible. Thank you! It looks like we will fly out in early to mid May to drive it home. Have to look over the Black list and see who we can meet on the way home.

Wayne & Lisa,

Welcome to the crazy house!

Without being at all pessimistic, I want to remind you: Subscribe to a road
service before you crank the GMC. We've had a lot of discussion of the
merits of different ones over the past few months so I won't belabor that
except to say that I've been very happy with Allstate's RV RoadHelp service
for about 13 years. It's saved me several times the accumulated fees during
some unfortunate episodes with and without the GMC. It covers me and HER
regardless of what we're driving.

Have a great trip.

Wayne,
That is a good coach. Ed was a heckuva wrench spinner in his day and
loved that GMC. Much of his life was built around that coach.

I agree, it is evident in what we have seen of the coach and with talking to Emma that they loved their GMC. It is also evident in that Miguel said it would be ready to go "as is" but since our maiden voyage is 3200 miles we felt a rebuild would be good insurance. Other than that and a few personal choices it is good to go. Everything works as it should and there are a lot upgrades done.

Buying something like this, sight unseen except for a few pictures kinda leaves a pit in your stomach. We only did it because people like yourself vouched for Ed and so did Miguel.

My wife has a terminal illness and we decided the time is now to start enjoying those dreams we had for retirement. While I can't retire just yet, we can still start seeing some sights. And what better way than in a well kept GMC?

Now thats what I like, a positive attitude. You couldn't pick a better
person to start your GMC adventure. Meguel will do a good job for you.
my sugestion is that you start out with a test ride up thru Salt Lake,
Yellowstone, Cody, Custers last stand, and like that. It takes a
couple side trips like that to get everything adjusted to your liking.
I would wish you a bon voyage but I don't know how to spell
it.<VBG>..............Terry

Welcome, Wayne and Lisa. Nice looking coach inside and out. Hope you will

That is a really nice coach. Ed did a lot of good work on it. As he
got older, though, he was not able to work on it as he used to.
I worked on the Onan for him at a GMCWS rally at Maricopa, Ca a few
years back and got it running really sweet. The main problem with it
was the little O ring on the main fuel jet on the carb.

I hope you enjoy it as much as Ed did.

Good deal Wayne and Lisa !

As others have said, welcome to the cult!
My suggestion...try the final drive that's in it for now, and win one for
free at the first GMCMI rally you go to!

These are the benefits of buying a coach that has been restored and maintained - you can begin using it right away and using it is the best thing for it. A great value!

When all is said and done we will have more in it than what we were thinking when we started the search but getting a coach that is in use really made sense to us. I have a couple of AMC project cars that I tinker with and my wife said she wanted to enjoy the coach on the road- not in the garage Laughing I know from the Airstream I had that there is always tinkering to be done but I did not want a major project. As long as it is already at Miguels we figured to just go ahead and spend the kids inheritance and get everything done Miguel suggests. Actually, I had to talk him into redoing the engine. He thought it was probably good enough as is but after discussing it he saw our point. We really do not have those types of services close by so why wait a year or two and then have to deal with local shops to get the work done? Besides, Lisa would be rather upset if we were stranded somewhere because I tried to save a buck or two.

Every other coach we were considering had been sitting for a couple of years or more as their owners aged out of RV'ing. While low mileage I am sure these coaches were going to take a lot to get back to reliable condition. The recent discussion on "roller" coaches really helped us in our decision making. Besides, Miguel said he really likes those 30,000 mile coaches. He makes a lot of money on them. haha
