there are several types of tow bar attachment types to the base plate so you can match them up or get an adapter as shown on the last link. tow bars can be bought that stay on the car and connect to a ball hitch on the GMC or you can get one that mounts on the receiver of the GMC and hooks to the car. i like the late as you don't drive around with the tow bar on your car.
good luck,

Having just purchase the coach, how do you know if a vehicle can be a TOAD or not. Is there a place to check and see? The coach has a trailer hitch.

Thanks

It should state in the owners manual.

Anyone installed a Driveshaft decoupler on a rear drive car? We just replaced our Manual Tranny Volvo with a a nice little rear drive car, that is itching to be towed behind my coach. It is Automatic, so I was thinking of installing a Decoupler.

Chris,

I've had a Remco drive shaft disconnect on my '91 S-10 2WD for over 10
years. It's never given me any trouble at all, but it can be a little
diffcult to disengage or engage if it's been un-used for a long time and not
cleaned and lubricated.

Engaging it usually invokes some scary sounds as the spinning drive shaft
dog teeth attempt to engage the fixed dog teeth on the differential's pinion
gear, but it's really nothing to worry about. Sometimes I even get lucky
and they engage with just little "clunk".

Blue Ox has the best units.
Be careful not to mix the tow bars with different brands as you'll
spend money on adapters.
You need to figure out if you want a tow bar that will park on the
coach or on the towed.
If you want go with the one that parks on the coach you'll need a
square receiver as a hitch.
I can help you, you will not be obligated to purchase anything.
I will give you a quotation on parts and freight.
I feel unless you do the work yourself, it is wiser to acquirer parts
in your area.
I have been to Blue Ox seminars and worked with their field reps.

I would go with Blue Ox http://www.blueox.us/ my Aventa tow bar is expensive but high quality. Same with their base plates. A Brake Buddy is the entry level device for toad brakes and suffices for the toads we pull. You can build or buy more extravagent braking systems that interface with the coach, but the brake buddy works centrifugaly . If you do not have a hitch on your coach, you'll need a class III hitch installed.

All the stuff together above will set you back around 3 grand or close to it if you buy new. You can find them sometimes on Ebay or Craigslist.

Again, not knowing what is already available for the GMC to use such
as the hitch will run you into additional cost of install .
Good luck to you if you think you do not need sens able advice from
people that do these frequently.

Yeah, Remco doesn't have one for my car. It is a 2008 IS-250. Maybe one for a Toyota pickup would work, LOL. Rear end looks about the same save for the half shafts.

Chr$,

Nice car.

Probably will not apply to your car but if a car uses the same transmission as any four wheel drive, you could install a transfer case and leave the front output disconnected. Use only "2H" and "N."

I have always thought that disconnects seem to cost much more than I think they should. I suspect it has something to do with economies of scale.... not enough market for them.
