Sorry to be a bit late to the party! I had my misadventure 2 weeks ago with my 3-ton Harbor Freight jack. It may be getting a little old, mind you - but, I had it under the front crossmember and once I had the engine in, it definitely would not lift the front of the motorhome clear off the ground. I would pump, but no lift happened.
Eventually I pulled out my other jack - a 2 1/4 ton, and used them together, one each side of the front crossmember. That did the trick.
I am really glad to hear that the 2.5 ton long reach is enough, because I have been ogling those - the short reach ones simply don't have enough travel, so I have to build cribbing under the frame rails and under the jacks themselves and try again - it's time consuming.

Denis,
Take the floor jack back to HF and have them give you another to try. They are supposed to have a very good return policy and it is a good thing. I have known a lot of things to go back for replacement/credit/cash. Mine lifts the front - not easily - but it does lift it and my coach was 4230 on the front wheels.

Denis: you might try adding a little oil to the jack if it jacks OK for a while, but not all the way up.
