Margie and I are headed south from Big Sur to San Luis Obispo and was wondering about driving the GMC with a Towed on Highway 1? Been a long time since I have been on this road and don't remember specifics.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I came thru there a couple years back towing a VW. Not a problem.
Slow, but not a problem. Don't let the sport cars honking the horn
bother you. There were plenty of pull-outs.....Terry

Bring your camera.

Great photo ops for the co-pilot out her window.

Perfect place for a slow drive!

When we lived in Tiburon (just north of San Francisco) US 1 was our
favorite way to go South to LA , if we had the time. It has a
fantastic view of Pacific most of the way. We towed a car.
Just be careful of all the curves in the road and if your going south
be sure your mate is not afraid of looking down at the rocks at the
bottom of the cliffs, Michelle preferred going north instead of
south! :)

We have been on US 1 the whole length of the State at one time or the
other. It is also a beautiful way to travel up into Oregon as well.

The ultimate "photo op" on highway one may be at Julia Pfeiffer State Beach.
A waterfall coming out of a sea-side cliff, and falling onto the sandy beach
below.

It should be pretty active this year after all of the rain we have had.

When we were there last, headed south, there was adequate road-side parking
for the GMC, just north of the park.

Would that be what's called "drive by shooting"?

Several years ago, I dragged a 24' travel trailer behind a full length PU. No trouble, just slow and being careful.

Being a "flatlander", I also was able to really enjoy the scenery along the Pacific Coast Highway. It's a great drive, but I also enjoyed the drive going North a bit more without the drop-offs to serve as a constant reminder. I've driven quite a lot (in automobiles) in Colorado, and it's always the choice between drop-offs and rock slides. I understand that a large rock slide really took out parts of I-70 last week.

You have to pay for scenery somehow! Maybe the featureless corn and beanfields aren't so bad after all!

Fin,
The ultimate "kodak" shot has to be Edun beach, just S. of Daley
City. If you've been there, you know what I mean. It used to be
called Gray Whale Cove.
