The primary reason that there are limited vendors at GMC conventions is financial feasibility. The GMC MH is a limited market supported by mostly small vendor and repair facilities. These vendors’s participation generally has a negative economic impact on its financial condition. Other large corporations with SOB potential customer base of tens or even hundreds of thousands of customers can budget for their events, with both economic and time investments. If a vendor's only source of income is their active participation in their business, then any participation benefit must be weighed against the economic losses of closed or diminished normal business operations. As Jim B noted, his experience is, that in simple words, not worth it. He makes more money and makes more people happy staying at work and doing his thing. Jim K on the other hand indicates that he has financial backing from another entity he is involved and it can supplement or cover the rally investment. If there was big money in this, believe me that BIG companies would be right in the middle of it. Most GMC owners know where to get, and who to call when it comes to the necessary parts and accessories specific to the GMC, Robert “from the land down under” has noted that the ability to access GMC vendor websites and making calls is more essential that rally support by them. It would be nice if a rally attendee could find representation for all the “grand” thoughts dancing in our GMC heads, but in the real world our internet access and telephones are our backbones.
This leads to the recognition that we better support “our” vendors; without them we are truly up the creek without the paddle. I think too many use our specialized vendors to pick their minds for knowledge of part numbers and repair techniques and then turn to order from one of the Big vendors. These vendor, who know nothing about our GMCs, but are “Big”, with better buying power, can “sometimes” sell at a few dollars less but who has put in all the time researching and cataloging ideas? Obviously, if we let our vendors and repair facilities die on the vine then the demise of the GMC MH will soon follow, “Big” corporations will not invest in preservation of the GMC. To them, the GMC will be a dried up market not worth supporting and where will the few of us that have been bitten by the GMC bug get our “fixes”?
Fire up your computers, or use your phone, and get that part you have been thinking about from a “real GMC supporting vendor”, our existence depends on it.
