Why such large inverters? I thought the theory was several smaller one to be as close as possible, turned on for the appliance, not much larger than surge for those constantly on, etc. was the acceptable way to go. Has that sort of set up theory changed?

Hi Jess, I have powered my old 12 v. with a DonRowe.com 800w sine wave inverter. My fridge only draws about 60w, but I may add a TV soon. About $200.00

For what it's worth. I removed all propane - hate the smelly stuff - and to power my new MAGIC CHEF 10 cubic foot consumer fridge/freezer (so much more room than a three way - and so much less expensive) had Jeff Sirrum instal a 1200 watt Coleman inverter.
Power is supplied from the genny battery and the actual inverter was placed behind the drivers side sofa - not too far to run those heavy big-beastie cables! When running on the road it will go all day, as the alt is running it. I am pleased with it, doesn't smell or make a noise and those cold refreshments I like from time to time are ICE OLD - unlike the old three way that kept drinks kinda luke warm.
