You might try one of those engine lifts that you can get from
Autozone, Kragens, Napa, or any parts stores for about $10. It
attaches to the intake manifold where the carburetor mounts and has a
single eyebolt in the middle that allows for turning. Just a thought.

Gary,
Denis is installing the engine and transmission together (don't know about
the final drive). Very few load balancers will allow the degree of fore-aft
tilt required. Two independent hoists are needed to achieve a 45*-60*
nose-up attitude. Now mounting a load balancer side-to-side to eliminate
rolling, that's a possibility I hadn't considered -- but I think it would be
more in the way than useful.
Oops - misread your suggestion! You're talking about at carb lift plate.
Mine has 3 holes. The first time I did a complete drivetrain removal, I
used the forward hole on that, with a chain to the 3/8-16 holes in the rear
of the heads. Even with all of the system weight on that forward hoist, the
inclination of the engine was not enough -- I had to manhandle it to a
steeper angle. The front head holes are a better location, or dual lift
loops at the forward intake manifold bolts would be good.
The only accessories it's necessary to remove from the 455 are the carb,
fan, headers (MIGHT be able to keep on), and, for its protection, the
distributor cap (and maybe even the distributor).
