Hi All,
The Rally's that I have gone too ,where Ken Burton has set up the Wi-Fi ,I
have no problem sending e-mails.
When I go to other free Wi-Fi locations ,I can receive but not have out
going e-mails.
What do I have to do, at these sites ,to have outgoing e-mails.?

Be sure the SSL box is checked
Most ISPs block port 25 so it is best if you use another port.

Paul,
Dave Mumert has hit upon something. This is a length response but full of
accurate information. The line after the last paragraph may be most helpful
for your situation.
Whether you can send via your SMTP (simple mail transfer protocol) gateway
depends on several things. I'll highlight them a bit.
1) When at home on BellSouth's network their mail gateway knows to trust
your computer so it handles sending email.
2) When you're not at home it depends on a couple of things.
2a) Will the ISP (internet service provider) handling your connection all
connecting to another SMTP gateway using the port (more on that later) that
you have specified? That's one question. The next is similar to it.
2b) Will the SMPT gateway (configured in your email application for use at
home) allow handling email (sending) from outside it's domain? To cut down
on abuse of SMTP gateways and scam/spam-mail it may not be permissible.
3) Ports - HTTP (web page) uses port 80 to transport information. Using
Skype, for instance, takes place on another port. Mail going out is usually
over a port and mail coming in is also over a port. If you want to do VNC
screen sharing, that's yet another port. Routers, at these locations, have
to be configured to allow traffic to/from specific ports unless all ports
are open.
4) The problem may be that you haven't used a web browser to connect to the
internet and accept the provider's acceptable use policy.
5) Many ISPs provide a method to send email through their gateway when
outside of their domain. Mumert's information tells you how to set up your
email application to do this. Here's how I do this with my provider.
I set up a separate account setting in my email application that I use when
on the road to send email through. For instance, when I'm home, I use my
standard setting to send/receive email. It is called by the name of my
provider -- InsightBB. When I'm traveling and not on the InsightBB network,
I send email through the account named InsightBB via the Net.
6) Nearly all email hosts have the ability to use "webmail" to send and
receive email. Some people don't mind using a web browser for email and some
do. It's a personal preference. However, it's a handy thing to know. Here's
how to access it for BellSouth.

Paul,
The primary problem with people sending emails from our rallys is getting their home email provider to accept their mail when they are not directly attached to their network.
Usually ISPs will accept your mail if you sign in first. I usually help people to set up their machines by showing them where to add the userid and password for sending email in their setup. This user id and password is usually the same as the userid and password that they use to receive email. So I just go in to their machine and find the receive userid and password and set the send userid and password to be the same.
For the very few people that this does not work for I get the mail server address for the local ISP we are attached to and give that information out to the attendees to use while they are there.
The second problem that I see on rare occasion is an ISP will only accept email on port 25 that is sent to their own email server. They refuse to pass email to your home server server on port 25. This usually happens on phone company owned DSL ISPs. When this happens I give out a temporary user id and password to rally attendees to use. The last time that this was a problem at a GMCMI rally was at Berrien Springs.
There are several other ways to get around the problem like using alternate ports or recommending that they use web browser emails. If you will post your email address I'll look into a solution for you. I only need the last part of your email address after the @ sign.
