Turned on my Macerator tonight to empty the tank and it ran like the tank was empty and nothing coming out. I think something is plugged in it. Has anyone hooked up a hose to it and pushed water backwards through it to clear what ever is in there out?
Looks like I might have some dirty work coming up. Fortunately I put a gate valve in between the tank and the pump.
Thanks for the thoughts.

The vanes of the rubber impeller in the macerator pump should not allow
water to flow backward. WIth high enough water pressure, I'd guess you
might even cause the vanes to reverse their "lean back" and cause the motor
to stall (though probably less likely than if you turn the motor backward
with the slot in the end of the armature shaft). I suspect you're going to
have to use that gate valve.

Larry,
Here's a picture of the innards of the macerator with the inlet off. It
looks like if you hook up a hose to the discharge it should flow backwards
with no problem as the vanes are bent in the right direction.
As we say Downunder, "give it a go, Mate!"

mine acts like that and i just fill the discharge hose with water and it starts up. my setup has the pump above the 3" line so it has to lift to get started.

Larry,
Rebuild kits are available for the Jabsco units.

If you can get a new one for a reasonable cost I would go that route, I put a rebuild kit in mine 2 years ago and found I had to add a thin piece of stainless also due to some wear in the housing that wasn't in the kit. This winter while camping near Quartsite a crack developed in the case causing it to drip. Probably because the old plastic is getting fatigued, a little epoxy stopped the leak.

Well, after trying several things, I decided to take it apart. Put the coach up, blocked it, and ran fresh water backwards through it so that if I had a spill the water would be a little cleaner. Pulled the pump off and took it apart to find nothing wrong. Hummm what now? Decided that as long as it was out of the way, I'd empty the tanks through the gate valve into a pan I had...one pan at a time. Pan was only a 3 gallon pan. Seemed like it was coming out kinda slow for what I thought was a full tank, so I poked a screwdriver up there...no change. So I shut off the gate valve and went topside to look down the toilet....sure enough, the tank was nearly empty. Seems I was trying to pump an empty tank dry. The tank was nearly dry the first time I tried to empty it, so the pump only needed to take out a couple of gallons before it started to sound like it was empty. Each time after...when I was reverse flowing water up the hose, I was just piumping out the couple of gallons I put in during the reverse flow process. DAHHHH...Sigh.....
As long as I had it apart, I reversed the outlet of the pump housing so the pick-up was at the bottom. Put it back together....filled the waste tank half full of fresh water and tried it....Working fine.
Sometimes I'm such a DULT.....
