Google Voice is a good thing.

It does tons of things like, texting, voice-mail, email,
call forwarding, long distance calling.

The list goes on and on, and mostly all free of charge.

I find it all a bit overwhelming.

Just found a book that details how it use
all these features in the real world.

I got my google voice number, although location isn't an issue, the only Arizona area code they had for Phoenix was 623. I'd rather at least have one in my current area code...

I use google voice because my wife and I have vonage and cell phones and our area codes are still in FL when we now live in AL. I picked up a local area code for AL and have google voice ring the home phone and both our cells. It can be a very good tool but I have a few reservations.

1) I have a delay of 1 or 2 seconds between when I talk and the person hears and vice versa. It can cause some confusion and is a bit awkward

2) I have no doubt google is recording every phone call in there database somewhere for some "don't be evil" purpose like better targeting ads to me later.

Overall, it's a good, free (monetary), solution to my problem, but I do worry about privacy issues as google is not very well known for respecting people's privacy.
