Does the ElectroLevel II have two identical pumps and appurtenances, or was that just someone's handiwork I saw from the photo site some time ago. There is a great deal of information on Gene's site <http://gmcmotorhome.info/list.html#Rear> that, if I were to read it, would prevent my public ignorance...

Maybe you are only looking at one side of the ELII. (I really don't know what I'm talking about and just tossing this up so that someone who does will correct me!)

Looking at the schematic of the ELII it seems that there is supposed to be 2 solenoids on each side of the system, but it appears that there is only one on mine (unless there is something going on in the pump itself that I can't see!)

I will have to pull out the solenoid and see if I can see any obvious difference between the side that is working and the side that is not..

I have - in the cabinet under the electrical stuff in the back - a platform that has two identical pumps with two solenoid valves sandwiched between them. One pump goes to one solenoid, and then straight to the airbag. Like I said, it looks different when I look at the schematic for some reason, but it looks like a stock configuration as far as the way everything is mounted in there..

Does the ElectroLevel II have two identical pumps and appurtenances, or ...

Yes.

Each side of the ELII system has one pump (with an internal "vent" solenoid), one hold solenoid, one short length of airline and one airbag. Each side also has a electric height sensor. The two sides also share electric controls just like the original ElectroLevel system. Very simple system.

Back to Drew's problem:

I suspect Drew has a bad (or backwards installed) hold solenoid. Comparing the two sides should help.

For other problems:

Bad sensors can give you odd problems. My pumps would run all the time, even in hold. Turned out that BOTH sensors where bad. You can disconnect the sensors at a connector near the pumps and the system should work manually. If you are having problems with a ELII system, I would disconnect the sensors and get it to work manually before worrying about making travel work.

Did you post pictures of this on the photo site some time ago? If that was yours then your workmanship is outstanding!

How much noise does this setup make? My current stock EL in my '76 Palm Beast has a leak somewhere and it rattles up to pressure every hour or two. It doesn't seem to effect the bags, though, as they don't settle down at all. I have the schraeders and valves so I can do it all manually if I want to, but I don't want to!

One of these days I'll go looking for the leak. Oh - by the way - I have the new 4 bag system (not quadrabag).

Hi

The ELII does have two solenoids, but one is hidden inside the compressor.
The second 'Hold' solenoid is the one you see.

The hold solenoid is often connected backwards. The original install had
the arrow on the solenoid pointing toward the air bag. That seems like an
obvious choice, after all the air does flow from the compressor to the air
bag.

Solenoids are a bit like a flapper valve. In one direction the air pressure
pushes down on the valve making a better seal, in the other direction the
air pressure is trying to lift the valve off the seat. The arrow on the
solenoid points from the high pressure side (the side that pushes down on
the valve) to the low pressure side.

When the solenoid is used as a "hold" valve the high pressure side is the
air bag so the arrow should point away from the airbag.

I seem to have cured it for the moment with my shutoff valves so that we can get on the road tomorrow. I will look at it some more when we get to our destination!

We have been living in our "new" coach in Texas for about a year since hurricane Ike trashed our rental house and most of our belongings! We have been slowly fixing it up, and working really hard the last month or so in preperation for our trip north to move back home to Arkansas.

We will take it slow and hopefully have an uneventful trip!
