Hi everyone,

Does anyone have a COLOR and non-fuzzy picture of a lower instrument panel closeout for a '73? Ideally, something that is currently available for purchase. I'm interested in something that can be painted and matches up with the factory upper instrument panel. I'm hoping to hide some of the wiring that's visible.

Below is the link to the panel supplied by Applied GMC, but I'm not comfortable buying that based on the black & white picture.

Thanks!

Thanks Gene,

It shows a little more than the Applied picture, but still doesn't make me want to reach for my credit card and order one...Looks pretty unfinished in that state. Sad

For $20 you can mess around and make it pretty much however you like it.

It comes without any holes, right?

I think I need to make that my screen saver so Mama knows what to get for Father's Day.

How handy are you with tools and wood?

I made mine from some wood veneer I had around the house and epoxied it together. It bolts to the lower dash and holds two air vents and a couple guages.

I was going to finish it in fine wood but ended up painting it black for a contrast color.

I don't think I spent $10 on the entire project.

I thought it was rather easy once I got myself going on the project and was done in a couple of days. ( had to let the epoxy set )

Looks very similar to the one in the picture.

So if you have any abilities at all, you can certainly make one, at least a prototype if you don't trust your work, you can change it out after you decide on the layout you desire.

Good luck

LarC ( Always enjoy a project that actually comes to completion and looks good and was built inexpensively. )

How did you get to this site?

http://www.bdub.net/curtis-unlimited/index.html

I have been on www.bdub.net several times and can't find any link to the sites like the one above? I know there are others behind the curtain at bdub.net.

Thanks

Thanks Dick. It looks good. That's just the type of picture I was hoping to see.

Jim K sells Bert and Fay's merchandise. I am not sure that you can buy directly from them now days, maybe. I have found their products to be superior.

I think you can purchase anything that CurtisUnlimited produces
directly from them. I was talking with them last week, and they
mentioned that their agreement with JimK does not preclude anyone from
purchasing from them directly, as compared to some of the other
vendors that will only sell their goods to JimK for sale to us.
However, we didn't talk about pricing (unless it was about dunebuggy
tops).

I also got my underdash panel from the Curtis's, and it fit great. I did lower my steering wheel, so my panel has an additional flat surface that is a great location for additional gauges and switches (ones that don't have to be checked all that often, but are nice to have).

For the price, I didn't think it was a bad deal at all. Just sand the getcoat lightly, drill any holes for gauges, and paint as you desire to match the upper dash.

Thank you everybody for your help. I ordered the Curtis model from Applied GMC this morning. Sounds and looks like it will cover the wiring nicely and look good!

Dave,
Unless they've made a new on, theirs only fits a 1" drop. McNeil
sells a 2" drop that so far, no one makes a lower panel for.

Has anyone had any luck with installing 2 5/8" gauges in the 73-74 panel?
Curtis said he thought only 2 1/16" would fit but wasn't sure.
