I once was there and thought about the possibility but poor weather helped me decide against it. Driving up pp is kind of what I would think of as a small adventure. I don't know if it is blacktopped yet.

I have driven my GMC up Trail Ridge Road but never up Pikes Peak. They are similar altitudes at the top but the Pike Peak Road is not as good as Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park.

If you have any other options, I just can't see why anyone would even
want to drive a motorhome to the peak. I've done it in a car, on a
motorcycle, and on the cog railway. The only thing that wasn't
gasping for power at 11,000 feet was the cog railway.

Kind of. In 1977, my Dad attempted to drive our '76 Real-Lite Class C (Chevy chassis) up but didn't quite make it. The engine stalled several hundred feet from the top, so he just put on the brakes and waited for help. Since there was no shoulder to pull off on, my Mom, younger sister, and I freaked out as all we could see out the side dinette window was straight down a couple thousand feet. We thought we were going to meet our maker. Dad, on the other hand was cool as a cucumber and just laughed at us. The authorities showed up, hooked us to a chain, and pulled us up the rest of the way.
