I need to get a new tray for my battery and I wanted to ask what people recommended. I see single, double and trible battery trays available for all options. My 78 Transmode only has a a stereo system with a possible flat screen going in with a DVD player.

I was curious about a couple of things:

1.)How difficult/easy is it to remove/add a new battery tray?
2.)Should I go with triples when 2 might be more than enough?

Thoughts and suggestions are welcomed and encouraged.

Go as big as you can. I built a triple but only use two batteries. The rest
of the space I use for storing oil, coolant, funnels, rags, trans fluid, PS
fluid. Makes it nice to keep it all together and out of the inside of the
coach. On the photo site there is a template I believe that you can use to
build your own. I basically used 1/4 inch aluminum and then welded some
dividers in, but you could use bolts and aluminum angle to keep the
batteries in place.

Thanks

Jeff,

Gary's right -- buy or build a tray that will fill the entire area under the
passenger's feet forward of the wheel well liner. That way, regardless of
how many batteries you have, things you store up there won't fall over the
side.

The Ragusa cast aluminum 3-battery tray is <$100 from the GMC vendors. Or
you can use this template:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=4280

Print the 6 pages and use them as a pattern for a cardboard template which
you can easily modify to compensate for copying errors, the difference
between driver and passenger side obstructions, etc. Then cut from
waterproof plywood, metal, etc. I had some fiberglass covered marine
plywood which I used for one tray -- it's even more impervious to damage
than the aluminum.

Mounting is very easy: There should be two brackets on the outside of the
frame on which the platform can sit.

I used a piece or 1/2 inch exterior grade plywood that was leftover from another project. I figured I would have to replace it in a few years. I reinforced it with a 2x4 on the bottom and bolted a plastic battery tray for the engine battery. I only put down a layer of cardboard under the house batteries.

I had all the batteries out last fall (after 4 years use) the plywood hasn't changed from when I installed it.

I used a 3/4" piece of exterior plywood and shaped it to fit the area
inside the fender area. It was bolted onto the two batter supports
and the meetal battery frame bolted on top of it.
It has been in about 7 years and still looks like new.

I carry about 8 or 10 quarts of oil, transmission and brake fluid, 1
gallon of antifreeze, a gallon of windshield washer solution, an oil
drain pan and a grease gun on it.
