i'm putting electric brakes on my trailer and thus need to put a controller in the cab. i need to tie into the brake light wire but cannot even find the switch. the manual shows where it should be.

is there somewhere else i can find the wire as it goes back to the rear?

Fred just look straight over the brake pedal beneath the dash. There
is a small plate with two switches. One is the brake light switch that
closes and provides power to the brake lights when the pedal is
depressed. The other switch is for the cruise control and opens to cut
off power when the brake pedal is depressed.

You can connect your electric trailer brakes right at that brake light
switch

Fred,
the switch sits on the top side of the brake pedal (towards the driver) in the metal bracket that the brake pedal hangs from towards the base of the steering column. I don't have a picture but someone probably does. It's more or less 3/4" around with two leads coming out of it. You can't easily tap into the wiring going to the back, as the circuit goes from the brake light switch to the turn signal switch, and then individually to the left and right side stop/turn bulbs. So, those wires would only work if you never used your turn signals.

Hi Fred: I believe the brake switch is above the brake pedal and actually touches it at the top. Easier to see if the lower panel is removed. The wires from there go to the turn signal switch and gets split. Probably better to tie in at the brake switch. I thought the controller worked with the cab brakes so the regular trailer light plug would still work? I know that Bakers Chevy truck has trailer towing pkg, but had to have a controller to make his electric brakes work on his bobcat trailer. When I pulled it with my Ford truck I did nothing but plug it in and all worked as suppose to. He was upset.

the controller allows you to adjust the voltage that goes to the electric brakes. they draw 6 amps so you could probably operate right off the brake light wire at the rear but it would be at full voltage.

i've been into the manuals and see where it is located but just cannot see it in the coach. as suggested i may have to remove the lower dash panel to access it. also i didn't realize the power went from the switch to the turn signals so i will have to access it at the switch.
thanks guys,

Fred,

I installed an electric brake controller on my coach about a year and a half ago. The other guys pretty much covered it; remove the lower dash panel and you will see the two switches. As I recall, the actual brake light switch is the one on the left. There is also a blue wire in the "optional trailer wiring" harness, but I couldn't find it. I ran a new 14 ga. wire to the rear to operate the brakes. All works as it should. Hope this helps.

thanks Carl and Rob. i went to John Nichols today and looked at his wreck and found what i needed to know. in your pic, Rob, you show 2 plugs on the switch. what is the other one for? i cannot find anything on it in the wiring diagram. also on John's coach there are only 2 wires coming out the top of the switch; a white one and a blue one. blue is the hot side.

Fred -
Better look at your wiring diagram again.

On the left side of the diagram is says : STOP SW

That is right between DIRECTIONAL SIG HAZAD & STOP LIGHTS

and

BATTERY SELECTOR SW

Fred,

I don't have a clue!

As noted Al Branscombe sent me the photos because he didn't know how to post
them to the photo site.

yes i found that one. i finally got the lower panel off my dash and everything became clear. the other end of the switch goes to the cruise control and is called "cruise control disengage sw" on the wiring drawing.

i got all the dash stuff done and all i need to do is run the blue wire to the back.
thanks for all the assistance.
