There were the usual Mgmt changes over the years but at the time the GMC
motorhome was announced Martin Caserio was GMC GM and I think
Alex Maire was GM Truck & Coach GM.

I know many of the top execs at GM and GM T&C maintained a very high
level of interest in this product. Wallace (Wally) Edwards, who was a VP
at T&C told me Ed Cole actually selected the color for the first display
coach to be shown in Louisville in Nov 72. The color was picked off of
Wally's
tie, which became Bittersweet Orange.

Dave,
Thanks for the added info. I was always disappointed that I first came to GM just about the time GMC motorhomes were winding down (August of '77 for GMI) and missed any involvement with them. Plus in those days I was with Chevy and the people at GMC were the enemy! Never knew Ed Cole, but that man was truly a legend. Discovery Channel did a 1 hour special on him a number of years ago, and he was just amazing. Among many other things did the initial version of the classic Chevy small block motor, a design so good that it stayed in production in recognizable form for over 40 years. (Gen III's were only distantly related), did the Corvair, GMC motorhome involvement, Wankel engines, and all kinds of stuff.

Looks like our own Bill Brown wrote the GMC portion of the Wiki history and it mentions the tie story you related about 1/3 of the way down as well. I had missed that the 1st time I saw it. <http://wiki.gmnext.com/wiki/index.php/The_GMC_MotorHome>

I love reading stuff like this.

Bill,
Oops, my apologies - - that's what I get for posting late at night. Great article even on the re-read.
