I'm new to your website. Have read a few of the many interesting and
informative emails. Maybe someone can help me with my problem.

I purchased a 1975 GMC Royale. The rear window is plexiglass or lexiglass
(not sure). It is bowing and separating from the gasket and creating a
sizeable gap. Should it be replaced with auto safety glass?

If so where can I get one? I can certainly use advice on how to fix this.
Thanks from a satisfied GMC RV fan.

Hi

Welcome to the group.

I had my rear glass replaced at a local glass shop. They just cut a new
sheet of laminated glass the same size as the damaged one. The GMC came
with tempered glass which disintegrates when broken so mine had already been
replaced once with laminated glass.

The window had a fairly deep tint so you might want to check around to be
sure the glass shop has the appropriate glass. They should be able to use
the plastic window as a template if it fits properly.

If you do not have side windows at the back you should probably use tempered
glass so you can break it to get out in case of a fire.

Good luck

Some years ago, I broke out my back window and ended up getting one from a
wreck. Previously a local glass company tried to cut a replacement...a
terrible failure.
Before I put in the replacement, I traced an outline for future usage, and
then applied 2 layers of tinting.
You're welcome to borrow the drawing...

Thank you for your offer. (Sorry it's taken me so long to respond). I will
take you up on your offer for the drawing of the rear window.
