Call me old school, but I proved again why new cars aren't all that. Neighbor with a new heart pacemaker had to get to the doctor for his check up appointment and got his new Altima stuck in the alley. I got the call to come help. With drive by wire accelerator, computer control and traction control you CANNNOT rock the car out. I tryed and yes I've driven in Chicago since the 60's. The computer will just say NO and keep the engine at idle. Very wimpy. Gas pedal becomes a useless unreponisve wet sponge. Very frustrating when any analogue controled car could be rocked out safely. Can you imagine being stuck on the side of the road and freezing to death because the car is stuck and it won't LET you rock it out. It's too smart for your own good. To me this is a bigger issue than the whole Toyota braking and sticking gas pedal thing. Also with the aero pans underneath there is really no where to attach a tow strap and the ground clearance stinks too.

The first time I high centered my truck with Posi-traction and Traction Control, I could not get it out of the snow pile for the same reason. The stupid computer kept shutting the engine down. Then I remembered that GM provided an override button to kill the Traction Control. Turning it off made all the difference and I rocked it right out of the pile. I love the combination of Posi-traction and T/C but there are times when you definitely do not want it working.

Could be because the Altima had a CVT transmission? They may have to control response time with the throttle to move the CVT from forward to reverse. Just a guess, once had a 1914 Metz with friction drive (an early CVT) glad my GMC doesn't a CVT ;^)

Good point on the CVT. I don't know because I never drove the car thru a cycle where there would have been or not been a shift. Once we pushed it out while in reverse, I handed it back to the owner. Also the glove leather on the door panels is a nice touch, but judging from the big V snag around the elbow rub area, maybe not so practical. Not my cup of tea.
