Good morning, 'netters!!

Was in the local Canadian Tire store in Toronto this morning and while talking to the parts dept. manager noticed a familiar tire on the 'clearance,' rack.

It is an 8.75x16.5 LT radial tire in Canadian Tire's house brand called 'roughrider.' [In real terms, what a BAD name for a tire!]

These are the exact same tires I have on my coach and they've been great. Even though they're load range D, I've had no trouble whatsoever with them.

Anyway, here's the deal: They're on clearance special for $79 CDN per tire, but if you'll take 6 or more, he'll take another $20 off per tire for a net price of $59 per tire.

They date coded 2003 but they're brand new.

Contact me off net if you're interested.

No way I'd put seven year old tires on any vehicle of mine!
Manufacturers state useful lifespan of tires to be at maximum
of six years, regardless of miles used.

I hear what you're saying Mac.

I don't disagree with your premise. I'm replaceing the tires on my coach this year and they have the same code as the tires on sale.

The difference is, though, that mine have 7 years of living outdoors and 25k miles on them. This is closer to what I beleive the manufacturerers had in mind when those statements were made.

If someone needs better tires and $$$ is a factor, this may be a solution they can live with. Up here in the north, cooler temps generally means tires survive longer, but this is a calculated risk.

a shredded tire at highway speeds can mean a couple of grand worth of body repairs if luck doesn't fall in your direction.

From what I've been given to understand, tires will
deteriorate even faster in storage than they will
when running down the road!

There is apparently some sort of chemical process in
current, modern tires that is activated through the
flexing of the tires as they go down the highways.

This process does not even get initiated when tires
are in storage.

There are very many examples of RV tires giving up
the ghost with very limited miles of use. I have
had a couple blow on my travel trailer at about the
six year point that had less than 5,000 miles usage.
And yes, the body repairs did not come cheap!

YRMV (Your Results May Vary)!

Just my recommendations/advice and they may not be
worth more than what you paid for them.

That is probably true. A few years back, before I had my 16" aluminum
wheels, I had a blowout on one of my 16.5" tires and I hunted all over
Jackson, MS when on a trip trying to find a tire.
I finally found about the only one in town at a tire dealer but it was
already five years old. He knocked another $50 from the price when I
pointed this out. I drove about 1200 hundred miles on it and it slew
off the tread. I tried to get a warrenty replacement from the
manufacture but they said that the tire was too old and not covered by
a warranty.

So, it is important to buy tires that are close to the date of
manufacture.
