Several have said AAA will tow a total of 400 miles if you have their RV
policy.  Anyone comment?

Gary,

As I mentioned a few days ago, I've used that service for over 10 years and
they had to tow the GMC before I even got home with it. I've used it on
another occasion for the GMC and a couple of times for flat, battery,
lock-out, etc. I've always been perfectly satisfied with them but I've
never needed a tow for which there was a great distance nor a viable
alternative for them to demand.

In view of the problems people are having with other companies, I sent an
email to RV RoadHelp a few days ago asking for explicit answers about their
policies -- I'm still waiting for the answer, which I'll post when/if it
arrives.

I just bought my GMC and purchased the AAA RV plus roadside assistance plan for about $80.00 per year.

With AAA Plus RV, your vehicle will be towed up to 100 miles, without charge, in any direction from the place of disablement to a destination of your choice. Of course, any repairs or additional towing for the same breakdown will be at your own expense.

Not on your freaking life would I ever go back to Allstate. I will
retell this story. I was dead center between Great Falls and Helena,
MT towing a car on my car hauler behind my truck. Blew a tire on the
trailer. Called Allstate from a very deep snow drift on a mountain
pass. got put on hold for just about the remaining life of my
battery. They gave me the name of a preferred place in Helena to take
the tire to to get it repaired. My phone went dead right in the
middle of some of my best cuss words. Not on your freaking life!~

Ken,

I clicked on that ad and if they do what they say the service would be
FANTASTIC!

However, considering what Steve F. has noted it doesn't appear to be true!

It will be interesting to see what they say when / if they answer you.

I still have not gotten an answer back for the question I sent in to Good
Sam!

G'day,

Has anybody else noticed that the RV under tow sure looks like a GMC! Other
than the fact that it only has single rear wheels!

I think we should write to them and make them change that! It's not
politically correct, we're being discriminated against!

All kidding aside I think that the wording of that ad it is deceptive!

Wouldn;t it be nice if "someone" could research all the RV Road Service
companies (and insurance company offered programs, Good Sam, Allstate, AAA,
etc. and put them together in a detailed matrix to just see who does what,
for how far and for what dues. This would be fabulous presentation for a
GMCMI. Maybe get a couple of reps to come and talk.

with apologies to Rick Denny.

In case anyone's still interested, here's the answer I got from Allstate RV
RoadHelp -- about what we might have expected, but not what I'd have liked.

Ken H.

Thank you for contacting our office.

As stated in your membership handbook "Towing to the nearest service
facility and/or minor on-site labor." However we would like to assure
you that your vehicle would be towed to a capable place of repair.

When calling for emergency roadside assistance we would request you to
inform the customer service representative of any special equipment that
your eligible vehicle or RV requires when it has to be towed and / or
repaired.

You are a valued member and we look forward to being of continued
service to you. If we can be of any further assistance, please feel free
to contact our office at 1-800-347-8880.

Thanks

The picture isn't as bright as they paint it online.

I don't think they would accept the request that the mechanic be able to show years of profieiency working on GMC's, & 455's, w/a th425 tranny.

Thanks

If you have prior military service, consider USAA for insurance.

They recently announced that they are expanding their membership eligibility I don't know the particulars, but the implication is they will include enlisted whereas they have only been insuring officers, their spouse and children.
USAA stands for United Services Automobile Association. No one will beat their rates. I've been there since 1962.

There are many benefits but this is intended to be for information only since this thread is about towing cost and saving money, not an infomercial. Mine costs like $3 a year and I just used it in October when the GMC quit due to Ethanol clogging the carb-I thought the fuel pump had expired, but not the case..........Michael at GEMRECS

USAA has long enrolled all military regardless of rank. Extended families
have been covered too. I believe this latest expansion allows non-military
to enroll.

USAA does not cover RV's directly but has a working arrangement with
Progressive fot that coverage.

I have also been with USAA for many years. When I bought my GMC last fall, I called USAA and they forwarded me to Progressive. Progressive handles the RV insurance for USAA.

Well, I am not getting good vibes from Progressive. I will find out Wednesday if they are denying my claim all together because I called Good Sam first. Either way, I will blast the news all over the internet and let them knot that.

If you do not get satisfaction from Progressive, file a complaint with your home state Insurance commission.

From personal experience I can attest that, done properly, involving your states insurance commission is very effective.
