Jan and I had a workable arrangement. She planned the odd number years
and dragged me NE so she could pursue family genealogy. I spent many
nights sleeping with her ancestors in graveyards. (very quiet camping)

I planned the even numbered years and always went West (Horace Greeley
fan) It worked for us for nearly 20 years and a few hundred thousand
smiles!
