Dan,
Sorry to hear that you are on the roadside. At least you have the Vibe
and a place to sleep and don't have to be at work on Monday. It will all
work out in the long run, as I always tell my wife, it's not the end of
the world when the car or motorhome breaks down (might cost some $$, but
you will still get by). Got about 6 inches of dry ice crystals; not
really snow. Cold too, 20 in the middle of the day here.

I see you just said it was $1800 to Miguels. You can probably put
together some help and fix whatever right there in Quartzite; I'm sure some
of your friends will come; Miguel might even come over and perhaps JimK
will come too.
It will work out.............
Jerry

Jerry,
Funny you mention that. Manny called and was ready to bring us an engine from Jim K. and put it in there in Quartzsite. I was nearly here when he called. I could not update the web and it was my fault. I will see Manny though as he is bringing whatever we need next week. Where do you find friends like these? Right here, GMC owners.

Dan go to USHIPIT.COM and list the tow job I had my 23' towed from Rio Rico Arizona about 50 miles south of Tucson to Orange County for $1200 when gas was close to $5 a gallon here. I am sure that you could have it towed for much less.

Michael
p.s. I will look for the guys name that shipped my rig. He put my rig on a lowboy type trailer to tow it.

Here you go:

1. Service Provider: KodiakTransport (58)
Name: Jeremiah Scott
Phone: (602) 885-6294
Email address: jeremiah@pbjcorp.com

He did a good job for me and I would recommend him for a tow or use him in the future if it was necessary.

My first reading of the above look like a suggestion that Dan was
headed upstream on a *particular* creek--the creek one is normally
paddling upstream without a paddle. I'm glad to see that Dan isn't
actually on THAT creek, at least not any more.

Thanks Rick. We have had lots of moral support. Jim K. has got the engine for us. Manny and Gary Berry are bringing it to us here at Miguel's shop. Miguel has been just great. I am glad we are here and not stuck back in Quartzsite where the wrecker guy got me. Can not cry about it though as we are where I know we will be taken care of. Always wanted to visit LA anyway. I find that I am just as good a driver as any of these agressive folks.

Last year (2008) I turned down a 6 month engagement in North LA because I did not want to put up with the drivers. I'm getting too old to put up with that crap. It's a good thing I did because the fellow who took the engagement ended up having to testify in Washington over the companies finances.

Good luck with the drivers. At least unlike Chicago they usually try to pass on the left.

Any idea yet in what is wrong with the engine?

You're broke down in a great place. Just south of you is the Chino Air Museum and a little off the beaten path is Flabob the quintessential little hang-around airport. If you're up for a drive, Grace Community Church where John MacArthur is pastor is over northwest of Burbank airport

Dan, LA ain't that bad. ....just have to know what route cuts over to the other.
Like Rob, I grew up (?) and learned to drive in 'Jersey. Home of the round-a-bouts (just like Rome). If you can drive a GMC there or in NYC, then LA, Atlanta or DC is a piece of cake. Now Orlando scares the pants off me. Since you have a good navigator/co-pilot you are half way there. You don't need no luck.

I told Miguel to take care of Dan and Terry as they are our right hand

He had already taken care of them.
Looks like I will owe him more flavors now.

Thanks for the update Steve.

30,000 mile engines don't just quit. New ones do and old tired ones do but not ones with 30,000 miles on them. We guessed he had a gummed up lifter when I was there 2 weeks ago. It now looks like our educated guess was wrong.

What scares me is driving REVERSE round-abouts in Sydney. It is not driving on the wrong side of the road. It is just the reverse round-abouts drive me nuts. Sydney is about the only place in the world that I will not drive. The rest of that country is fine.

Oh yeah? How about Brisbane? With that crooked river running through it,
no street goes anywhere! After our first excursion into their streets, I
started writing turn-by-turn instructions from departure to destination for
every trip. SHE would read off, "turn left here (stay to the left). Turn
right at the next corner (stay to the left). Circle right around the 'bout
(stay to the left)..." Worst place I ever drove (well, maybe next to Rome
in '54 -- at least I didn't get a ticket in Brisbane like I did in Rome.)
