G'day,
I've compared the photographs of the 1968 - 1972 Caddy Eldorado single
rubber front mount:

to the 1973 - 1976 Cadillac Eldorado dual rubber front mounts and the Dale
Fromm designed bracket:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=32191
it appears that the front of the engine would be lower!
Is this an optical contusion or am I correct?
If I'm correct the engine would sit lower which would require a lower hatch
cover and I think that would be a good thing.
I don't know (obviously) if it would it change the alignment of the inner
and outer CV joints or create any other problems.

Well Rob,
If you were to lower the front of the engine, you would also
lower
the final drive. This would necessitate raising the front ride
height
so as to maintain level halfshafts. This would increase the
speed
boat look, as well as changing the camber curve when leaning into
a corner. Not really a desirable thing, in my opinion.
Also, changing to a two-point front mount should include changing
to a single rear mount, as did Cadillac in 1973. Your call.
Sometimes, change is not really a good thing. Pun intended.

My deal in Macon, GA fell through as soon as I made contact with the seller:
He has only decorative items from the 3 '68 Eldorados he formerly owned.
:-(
I'll keep an eye on the Pull-a-Part in S. Atlanta when I'm going to visit my
daughter near there. They report a '71 Eldorado in inventory now, but it's
been there since Oct 09, so is probably pretty well stripped and headed for
the crusher. No telling when I'll be up there though.

Gary,
Understood.
Two questions:
Could you not raise the rear ride height to compensate for the amount you
raised the front? That would be a good thing as you would have less tendency
to drag the bottom of the rear bumper and tear off sewerage pipes!
Why it would be necessary to change the rear mount to single point; would
four points be too rigid?

GOSH! In my disappointment over the good pieces not being there, I
completely forgot I'll be needing one of those!
Re: Ride height: Gary's point about adjusting ride height is that changing
engine height also changes the angle of the drive axles. Remember that Ken
Frye sets ride height by putting a level on those axles.

Well, the reasoning has always been, if you jack up one corner OR
turn up
a steep driveway, the frame may flex enough to break something.
Or maybe
GM didn't manage to get everything welded together exactly
square.
