Life is great out here. A bit windy this afternoon but that will die. Saw one GMC parked just south of Rice Ranch on east side of 95 in the BLM area.

Paul and Jackie Jones are here somewhere. Ken Burton is at 85 and I-10 for the night. He will be here in the morning.

As we approached the Quartzsite city limits at 6PM last night, from the engine area came a loud clatter-rattle-squeaking sound (like the sound of the 10 mm socket lost in the clutch housing sounded after my car hit a bump in the road some years ago) this was quickly followed by a great roar and the vehicle slowing rapidly without any change in throttle position.

I am sure some of you have had this experience and hope your diagnosis is the same as mine. In less than a minute I was checking gages and nothing on the Digipanel was orange or red, in fact transmission and engine temp had dropped to the lowest light bar.

I suspected fan clutch lockup. I put it in neutral and revved she motor - the roar was there and a slipping fan belt seemed the source of the squeaking sound.

If my diagnosis was correct. I have access to two clutches here at the 49er rally / camp, and if I am really desperate, probably as many as 10 options from other coaches via midnight auto supply by tomorrow night when more installed clutches arrive.

1. Given that I have a 3.7 gear ratio and drive at higher revs than stock (and never had a heating problem even with the 3.07), should I get a heavy duty clutch which I had heard spins more, a light duty, or a flex fan? [I am amazed at how much power a fan can suck].

2. How do I get to the clutch to change it out? I thought about having an auction (putting the job out for the lowest bid) The bidding would be for the privilege of doing the R&R and the bid winner would be the one willing to do the job for the lowest number of six packs.

Ken Burton is right near Black Lister's Bill & Sharon Nigh of Buckeye. And only a few miles from the Phoenix/Avondale NASCAR track.

Sure hope they have built a nice hotel in that field where Google Satellte shows he is.

Maybe he could stop at Autozone and bring a fan clutch.

I have an extra fan clutch. Who needs it and where? I'll be in
Quartszite on the 20th. Have to drop off some control arms in
Chandler on the way.

Glad you made it OK Dan. I'm going to try to finish getting my dash back together today. I'd still like to come out there, but I'm not sure when. These paying customers keep cutting into my free time.

Hey Dan;

Are Burt and Faye out there as yet? Also, in the BusNuts area, is
Geoff there or going to be there? He has an RTS conversion.

Doug, do not fear. Sounds like you will have a part from Steve F. if you want it. Gary, I did not see an RTS last nite but there were only a few buses there.
We will get together and assess your problem Doug. Ken will be here soon. He spent the nite at the new Walmart over at Buckeye.
We had our own scare 8 miles out and came in at 45 mph. Will tell you about it later today.

Gary,
don't forget the Hatch, NM turnoff. Goes straight to I-10 and saves
quite a few miles.
