Ahh the Futureliner! There were I think 8 built with some surviving.
I think
one or two were converted into RV's. the others are used for
promotional
purposes. I researched these things a few years back...

Ron Pratte owns the BJ Futureliner.
He seems to spend 5 to 10 million dollars at the auction every year, mostly on muscle cars , Shelbys etc.
Ron is in the wood framing housing business apparently BTW.

G'day,
By the way Helen and I visited the Auburn-Cord-Dusenberg Museum in Auburn
Indiana this past summer. The NATMUS Museum is at the same location;
however, the Futurliner is not kept there as they don't have room for it.
The attendant told me they were collecting funds to build a building to
house it.
The only way you can see it is to catch it at shows and exhibits. Currently
it at the:

A fully restored Futureliner sold at the Barrett Jackson Auction in
Scottsdale two years ago for around $4,000,000.

I know a little more than I should about this FuturLiner.
There were 12 FuturLiners Built, only about half that have been saved, and a handfull of that rebuilt. Only one has been rebuilt to GMs original standards. The others are rebuilt as a rolling bar or the FIDO. I have seen two others that are owned and are in rough shape, I don't think they will ever be rebuilt. I saw another on Ebay, again, rough shape. The other six were junked or used as parts for the remaining FuturLiners.
The FuturLiner ( FIDO ) was saved from the scrap and completely rebuilt by FIDO, a cell phone company in Canada.
Its restored colors were white and Teal. It was painted to the Original red when they knew it would be put up for sale.
The FuturLiner was torn down and rebuilt. The engine and drivetrain was upgraded to todays standards. It is not an RV CONCEPT. The center of the roof has a light unit built into it and it raises above the coach to light the area, about 12 feet I beleive. It was a combination of florescent and incandesent flood lamps powered by the FuturLiner that carried the Generator.
In the rebuild, the roof was rebuilt differently for structural reasons ( the original FuturLiners used to flex when the side panels were opened and it would take several men to get them back to position so the sides could be closed ). The sides would drop the bottom half down and top half up to open a large display area, which is why FIDO wanted to use one for its cell phone drive. One of the displays that used to be in the FuturLiner is at Chicagos Museum of Science and Industry.
The FuturLiner was a follow up from the original StreamLiner used for the Parade of Progress shows. THere are NO StreamLiners in existance that we know of. GM is not too good at keeping things that might be worth a lot of money in the future.
Top speed was about 35 miles an hour and had some kind of shifter for the rear gear box as well as the transmission.
The FuturLiner was produced with a glass roof over the driver and NO AIR CONDITIONING. The drivers said they would cook under the sun.
The FuturLiners were upgraded with a metal roof with a hatch over the driver. If I recall, they never had Air Con in them.
After GM abandoned the Parade of Progress, the FuturLiners were given away as they had no interest in them anymore.
The FuturLiners had poor brakes ( sound familiar ) and when going down a mountain road, one FuturLiner ran into the rear of another. One was fixed. The other was given away with a working one to a police departement. the damaged one was given for parts.
If you had seen the GM concept with the driver in the roof area, that was much like the FuturLiners driver compartment. Only about 40 years later........
