So few question to the guys who have switched to EFI.

1- did you get better throttle response?
2- any better up hill performance?
3- would you go back to a carb or should you have stayed with a carb in the first place?

The thought of efi came to mind as i was going up and down many 7 to 14% grades on our last trip.....

1. Throttle response once is # 1 thing you notice improvement on.

2. Yes. Little bit Not at noticeable.

3. Really happy with efi. Starts, drives, responds like modem vehicle.

1 yes
2 not sure
3 will not go back to a carb.

If my MSD throttle body EFI ever fails, I would consider going to the Howell system.

I have never met a carburetor who wanted to be my friend.

The efi + computer controlled distributor make this motor purrr. It fires up almost instantly.

I would never go back.

I was looking at a "SNIPER" ad the other day. They have a complete system
with a 4 throat throttle body that bolts in place of a quadrajet with no
adapter plates or special gaskets, etc. It uses 100 pound injectors in all
4 holes. About $1600.00 bucks plug 'n play. Looks neat. Like to see one up
close.

There are a few that have installed the sniper on a gmc motorhome. They have the hyperspark distributor that has some spark control. Seems to work well, but it is all or nothing system. If it ever goes dead you are reliant on a 1-800 number.

What ever EFI system one installs the fuel delivery is the part that takes some planning. Sniper is fine, but it still needs reliable fuel pressure/supply from our flat tanks.

Jim,
Again, you're going to acquire nothing more than a glorified Squirt gun.
The Basic Howell unit with the EBL will do more for you, forget the 4
barrel. It looks like it can outflow, but does not have the brain to take
advantage of what the engine requires that the EBL Flash drive ECM does.
Also you will be dead in the water if you need parts for the Sniper as part
stores do not carry them as there are not enough of them out there, while
the Howell unit is based 90% on the Generous Motors parts and every parts
store carries spare parts and there are several GMC guys that can help you
7 days a week should you have isues.

No, I just hate that cobbled up adapter/gasket setup on the Howell and also
the GM Setup sitting on top of a 4 barrel intake manifold.
Kinda like bolting a holley 4 barrel onto a '48 Ford flathead 2 barrel
intake manifold.
Just looks like crap. I would love for someone to manufacture a true
spreadbore fuel injection throttle body with smaller injectors on the
primary side and bigger ones on the secondaries. And of course, controlled
by the Howell EBL system. A guy can wish, can't he?

Agree with you JH 100%. That was my only issue with the Howell efi with bel
system. The wiring was simple and intuitive. Bolting it all up to the
intake was the biggest (and pretty much only) fingers crossed moment.
Should be a trivial fix to make a better interface. So why haven’t they?
System isn’t exactly cheap.

For some of us that understand the value of a true EFI system that will
respond with ignition control and response to all senses a GM system does.
My exposure to Fuel Injection started back in 1988 with a Cad 500.
These throttle kits just does not much to controlling ignition timing,
Ignition timing is vital to overall performance.
Sometimes one need to tackle few sensors and wires when trying to gain more
function control and availability of parts.

Jim K - I recently ordered the full Howell system with EBL and distributor from you - I’m hoping to start the install soon (once the smoke from wildfires clears up a bit in N. CA). I didn’t notice the adapter plate and gasket in the kit. Is that supposed to be ordered separate? Any recommendations on a distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires? Or are they all the same?
Thanks!

I did forget to pack it in the box, glad you checked.
We supply the thinner adapter plate to help clear the stock Air Cleaner.
Use the original cap and Rotor and plug wires.

Hey Jim - I’ll probably order up a few more things early next week - if you have the adapter handy - maybe ship it with the new order?

Thanks!
Ken
