This does get to the fire.
Opra Winfrey brought this up many years ago. To do something kind to a perfect stranger. And it's a good concept to also include people around us. You're setting at a stop light. That person to your right. Let them get out of the drive that their stuck in. That family next door that has a dog that barks a lot. Coe workers that you know their face. But nothing more about them. A simple smile just might help them on a day of stress. That their having. And your smile to them. Can give your day a little boast. Clubs are a little different. We join clubs as a stress reliever. And their related internet sites. For some joy/kindness to start with. A stress relief valve. Of sort. In a stress filled world. That smile is a start. But in a club. Dialogue is a super stress relief valve. For stress in, and out of the club. As that's what clubs are to be.
I mentioned what's above. Because I was on the receiving end of a random act of kindness. BIG TIME. Nov 29,2016, at 10:46 PM. On I-88. West of Chicago. I was heading home. From one of my GMCMI promo displays. That I have now quit doing. I had started to smell wood burning. I pulled into a rest stop. The new complete exhaust system looked fine. After all. It was just put on the previous February. It must be from a wood burning stove in the area. Then back on I-88. Then. About 15 miles down the road. A tractor/trailer pulls up next to me. Honking is horn, flashing his headlights. He had also turned on his inside dome lights. He was a young black man. Pointing his finger vigorously. Toward the bottom of our GMC. Just by his body language. Something was seriously wrong. I was with in 300 ft from an off ramp. That had lots of light. I pulled into the V of the ramp. Got out. To fine that the wood flood. Above the aluminum skin was smoldering.( The seam on the top of that new muffler h
ad split open.) My water tank was empty. ( Never do that again.) I only had some water bottles. Then another interesting thing happened. When I was just getting out. I saw two fire trucks. Coming down the off ramp. It didn't dawn on me then. But how did they know? Later I found out. That the truck driver had called 911. At the town. That he'd have me at that upcoming off ramp. That was one very bright, and thoughtful young man. I tried hard to find out who he was. Never found out.
I've always been a big supporter of random acts of kindness. It's fun to do. It's the. What goes around. Comes around. It's Truely great to be on both ends. Just try to play nice. If you have issues with others. Dialogue is the true road to the truth, and peace.

Bob,
I know of at least several times you drove out for few hours to help people
get their coach running.
You not only have the Heart, but the knowledge to help.
Only a few really know what you have contributed to the community.
I know you have made professional signs and asked by the Corvair clubs to
show your coach and car at the National conventions with illuminated signs
and stole the show..
It upsets me to see and hear some do not appreciate what you have done and
give you issues.
Grace and I support you and Linda and respect you two.

Bob, I never charge labor for black list calls. Only ask that I get
reimbursed for parts I use. If someone calls me, I respond. These are great
clubs. I belong to 4 of them. Plus a car club and a car and motorcycle
museum. Just what guys like us do. Some day, it all comes back to even the
score. I appreciate your contribution to your Corvair groups, as well as
the GMC community. Glad someone came to your rescue.

Let’s hear it for that trucker! A good lot for the most part. Now, a practical question. Isn’t yours a 78 with the better factory insulation above the mufflers? Did that not help?

YES. As to that truck driver. I just wish that he would have stopped. But. He knew that he had arrange for me to get help. Plus. He must have traveled that route often. Because he knew in advance of the lights at that off ramp. I truly believe that 90% of people. Are good deep down . A drill instructor. While I was in the Marine Corp boot camp. As recruit. Told us. That there's a Losey 10 % of the population out there. He was correct. That truck driver was just a sample. Of the top of the 90%.
Loved being in the Corp. It was an honor. That I deeply Charish. ( As a side note. I have a back defect. So, I was exempt from the draft. So, I kept my mouth shut about that issue. To the Marine Corp recruiter. One of the best things that I ever did. )
Yes John. It's a 78. With the insulation, And aluminum skin. That covers the entire bottom. I'll contact you in a private e-mail. As to the details of what transpired. With the floor. And how to avoid that problem. Best that I do it that way.

Bob, you certainly have done alot for others and especially our GMCI club!
Thank you!
I would sure like to see you back on the net more frequently contributing
with your "tid bits" and other informative posts. Your 150 years (grin) of
experience with our motorhomes is especially valuable to guys like myself
that are relatively new. I understand that you have gotten grief and even
threatened to be banished from our group (by someone other than our
monitor) I sure hope you guys can work out whatever differences you have.
Many of us would sure like to see you back on here contributing with your
tech information.

Bob,

I'm so very glad you were surrounded by such wonderful people. If you watch the news, one would think the world is full of evil. There is enough of it I am sure, but it still pales in comparison to the love and compassion that is around us. "Seek and ye shall find".

Thank you for all the help and advise you have given me.

Take care and enjoy another wonderful day here on earth,
Tom K.
