location? Transmissions are not light.

We have a rebuilder here in MN that has a good track record.

the questions is who is doing labor to remove and replace? and then you have the rebuilder. our MN guy does not remove or install transmissions, just rebuilds them. It is all in the torqure converter, but he also installs forged parts rather then cast, and a few other items. Most important thing is a big monster size transmission cooler.

Not hard to R&R, takes a bit of time. Make or acquire one of Ken Henderson's little fittings to lift and lower it, or run a strap around it. Helps to drain it before you start, to keep the mess down. Flex plate bolts, cooler lines, vacuum line, electric connector, shift linkage loose and out she comes. Loosen but don't remove the rear mount bolts so the mount can be tipped to let it clear. No need to remove the final drive, but loosening its front mount sometimes helps, as does the front engine mount bolts. If the upper inner nut to the final drive is still there, it's a pain to get to. I use a curved box wrench.

If you are close enough to take or send it to Manny, do so. Or likewise the guy mentioned above who they say gets good results. Or check with the local shops for an old grayhaired tech who is familiar with the THM-425. Ask the tech to call Manny ans ask what changes from stock he makes for longer life pulling a heavy load.

We sell only Manny trans as we know what goes into the rebuilt.
All others just drop in a standard kit.
Our Manny trans comes with the Allison style torque convertor with
braised fins and roller bearing and the clutch pack is of premium friction
plates and few other tricks to make it last lot longer than ANY in the
country.
