Hi I just borrowed a *l o n g* lug wrench that fits the lug nuts on a coach wearing ION alloy shoes ...are the steel 16" rim lug nuts the same size and will the wrench fit???

Larry,
If they are stock steel wheel lug nuts the ION lug nut wrench probably will not fit. I just bought a set of ION's from JimK (Love them) but the lug nuts are a smaller size than my old 16.5 standard wheel lug nuts. I called Nick to confirm the recommended torque on the ION lug nuts and it is 145 foot/lbs. I always needed a 3 foot cheeter bar to break loose the steel wheel lug nuts, but my torque wrench is enough for the ION's. HTH

You never use a flat surface not on an Aluminum wheel as it cuts into
the hole on the wheel has a tapered hole, then you use a tapered nut.

I would go off of memory that lug nut sizes very between wheels quite a bit.

I know with my dodge front wheels, I carry 2 lug nut sockets. I know there is some variance between OEM Aloca lug nuts and some aftermarket chrome one's. so I would venture out to believe that the Ion rims are could easily have an odd size lug nut.

Thanks for the replies.
Maybe a simpler question is: What size are the wheel nuts on standard 16" steel wheels? I just want to take the right size socket!

Also Larry that’s a “My cousin Vinnie” trick question as there were no 16” standard wheels. They were 16 1/2”. 16” were an owner change.

I loved that movie..... but it is a trick question.

All the flanged nuts for steel wheels are 7/8. Anything else is anybody's bet.
Many of us have changed to 16" steel wheels.
Problem: If you buy them used, chances of getting good wheels is slim. The vehicles these were on were mostly farm or work trucks....
I bought 16 to get 13 usable and had them blasted and powder coated. If I had know how it would work out, I would have bought alloy.
New steel can be had, but the cost interval to get allow is marginal and you loose about 30# of unsprung weight.

I have 16" steel wheels on the coach and am about to fit 7 new tires before driving it back home.

I guess I'll just take an assortment of impact sockets, 7/8" and some either side of 7/8".

Larry; I have 6 Eagle alloys that I'm not using. Two are brand new with lugs nuts.
Four a slightly used with lug nuts but they are metric.
I'm in Cobble Hill just south of Duncan. I would now take $200 CDN for each wheel.
I think they are $200 US now.

Your Eagle alloys are 16.5's, right? I just bought 7 new 16" tires so I think I'll stick with the steelies for now.
Thanks though
